Hi all.

Here in Australia Apple just won a lawsuit to have Samsung banned (temporarily, but for the foreseeable future) from selling Galaxy Tabs because of patent infringment (personally, I think the whole thing is a gross abuse of market power).

It is possible for me to get an American one imported.  I wonder if anyone has any impressions of it?  I have heard and read wonderful things.

I also want to know if it charges using the same mini-usb system as the Galaxy S2 smart phone?  I ask because American power sockets have different configurations to Australian ones.  I have an adaptor, that isnt the problem, but it would be nice not to have to worry about it, if it isnt a proprietary charging system.

I would love answers to my questions, but I welcome all comments on the Tablet, positive and negative.  Please try to ensure that your opinions are genuine, and not tainted by loyalty to any given company.

Cheers,
Starcraft.

We have a few in the office.. it's has a propetary usb charger/data cable.. but you can power it with a usb port so no worries..

the wall charger is separte.. but I think you can use any usb wall charger..

Device is nice.. I personally have an iPad 2 which is a bit snappier, but the galaxy tab is a fine device.. I only don't like the plastic.. much prefer the aluminum from the iPad.. feels a bit sturdier..

Flash support and website are overal better looking on the Tab compared to the iPad, First party Apps are great (email, youtube etc) Third party apps are horrible, get if you can the optimized versions for the Tab.. the Tab is a bit on the long side so I can't use my thumbs in the center of the device in landscape mode..  but it's a good device overall.. If I wouldn't have an iPad I would have gotten the Tab and believe me.. we have around 10 tablets in the office and it's the best android tablet out there.

Well its a product war, Ipad 2 Have ban in some country, angainst samsung they are at wars.

The tablet by the way is awsome, You will have a usb cable. used to connect the tablet to a ps or to a wall hub for recharche.

I dont know if the Ipad 2 is in the same or any tablet, Connecting the tablet to a pc wont charge the tablet.

One or the best tablet android out there. My my consern always been the touch keyboard, on the Ipad 2 it ways for me not reactif enought.

And The Galaxy do it at the speed of the cheetah.

How did it get banned there, but not here in America? Sound like they are becoming a monopoly. These tactics make me not want a ipad now.

Apple sues, because it's a real threat. I personally despises Apple for such tactics.

Also, Might I suggest Asus Eee pad instead? I personally find the keyboard dock very useful and it has battery built-in to provide additional 8-9 hours of usage. (although unless you get it at a great price, I say wait for Eee pad 2, with 5 core Kal El process coming later this year).

Read the research.

Oops my bad... I use a Mac... most Mac have high-power USB 2.0 ports so they charge the Tablets.. most PC don't on the front side.. sometimes the usb ports on the back are high powered..  Tables need high powered USB ports

Thanks very much for your contribution.

So you like the iPad 2 more than the Galaxy Tab?  I have gone very sour on Apple lately.  I owned iPhones the last couple of years and they kept breaking and I also have $300 worth of locked music from way back on iTunes.  I still have a classic iPod, which I love, but I also am a PC guy through and through.  All of this makes me keen for an Android.  I have a Galaxy S2 now and I love the phone.  I don't particularly mind the length of the thing.

What I would use it for would be Email, Facebook, some word processing (is there a good office app available for it compatible with Work, Outlook etc?) and then some media like movies and stuff from time to time.

Well the iPad2 has a better battery life..besides the third pary apps that's one of the main reason I like the iPad better.. But still you can play 2 maybe even 3 movies with the Tab before it runs out of juice.. Personally I never had any apple stuff break down but I do know enough people who are cursed when the buy anything apple..

Facebook, Websurfing, Email works fine on th Tab.. especially gmail.. QuickOffice Pro HD is the app for docs.. works perfectly.. syncs with a lot of cloud services like dropbox, mobileme, googledocs.. it's an expensive app at 20 dollars but worth the money..

Media wise that thing is a beast.. it doesn't really matter what you throw at it.. it plays MKV WMV  MP4 etc etc.. that's one of the things I like waaay better on the tab then on the iPad... I'm one of the few people who downloaded VLC player for iOS while you still could (licensing issues within VLC forced it to be removed) but the Tab doesn't need a third party app...

I'm actually surprissed how much time a tablet takes you away from a desktop/notebook... I think it's at least 50%.. tablets are damn handy.

Thank you for all your comments.

I just ordered the cheapest model (16GB with Wifi), in part due to your recommendations.
