Forums - Sports - The OG NHL thread: The Cup worth biting for

Who will win?

Chicago Blackhawks 12 80.00%

Tampa Bay Lightning 3 20.00%

Total:15

You'll get alot more traffic next weekend when the Winter Classic hits... should be a great matchup, I can't friggin' wait. And almost every team that has played in the Winter Classic so far has either gone to the finals or won the Stanley Cup either that same year or the following year (Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Philly and Boston... only Buffalo and Washington haven't). This bodes pretty well for my Rangers!

Dude, I put in effort in the beggining. I posted a link to the thread on many members walls. I tried to talk about as many teams as possible and be positive towards most teams. I asked the now missing in action trashyouupdister12 to help me get it going (which he did, a good man). I tried to make amusing eye catching subtitles which sometimes worked. But frankly, I think the only sports threads that can have big threads on here with the site being as slow as it currently  are football and soccer threads and maybe nba threads. Hockey is just not that popular. It also does not help that skyrim came out and that I am more interested in football at the moment. Thanks for your support though I will occassionally post.

It also doesn't help that for people like me, we may not have time to catch the games. I've missed most of the Aves games alone, nevermind other games this year just because I don't have time. Football is easier for me to follow with the free time I have during the semester. Granted, I do have more time now over the holidays, and I hope to catch some hockey games (I believe there's an Aves game tonight).

I agree as it is easy too follow all football games when each team plays once a week. This also makes the prediction game work in the NFL as hockey has so many games and would be impossible to have a prediction league for it on this small of a forum.  Also, I tried watching many teams early on as I was very excited, but eventually it became too much with my own schedule and I could only follow the avs.

I did catch the Aves tonight, and that was an exciting game. Giguere had a fantastic game; something like 37 saves.

Yeah I saw it, the avalanche have now won 7 home games in a row. Quite the reverse from the beggining of the year when they could only win on the road. They are still able to make the playoffs if they play consistantly well, so things are still looking possible. The thing is they are still getting destroyed by their own division and unless they reverse this trend they will not make the playoffs.

I will put a little more effort into the thread I have a few things in mind especially during the playoffs, but there is still a great season to watch.

I think Justin Beiber will be the new poster boy of the Toronto Maple Leafs, compleatly exemplifying their character.

No wonder it's been such a long time since they've won the Cup.

Nice to see this thread around, although sucks to see all the regulars from the previous years threads seem to be gone.

Can't see myself coming back too often though. My Canadiens are doing as bad as I've ever seen them play, and I can't see it turning around. After those pathetic back-to-back losses before Christmas break, I've moved my focus from winning towards getting a top 5 draft pick and trading away anyone that can get us picks in return. All this bullshit surrounding the new coach who can't speak french is just embarrassing as well. I'm ready to suck for the next 2-3 years if it means this team can finally become something more than a 6th - 10th place performer. Had enough of year after year of mediocre regular season and hoping for playoff upsets.

Actually I'm really looking forward to the World Juniors tournament, starting Boxing Day. Probably doesn't get any coverage in the States, but this tournament is big in Canada and has become my favourite outside of Olympics. Go Canada!

They are not all all gone the main thing is they are either hardly ever around and nordlead is gone. The lack of nordlead does not help. Also does not not help when the thread starters team is almost playing as bad as your team, Colorado.

On a compleatly different note not to you, the wings have lost two in a row. Unfortunantly, both of those games were to two northwest division teams, but I will take what wins I can at this point in the season people. A perfect christmas present also going well with my 2nd favorite team the Blackhawks remaining number one in the league. Go Hawks kill them wings!!!

Guess who is in the lead in the Atlantic division the Rangers!!!  They have done a really good job of turning the season around. I thought they would be one of the worst in the league the way it started. Also I swear that is the toughest division isn the East so it looks like they must be really good to hang with gret teams like phily and the pitt.

Edit: The avs won too, great. Duchene scores in overtime. Make that 8 home game wins in a row!!!!

Holy Crap! 8 in a row, that is really good!

Would be even more amazing if they could start winning on the road to, but either way things are looking up.

RANGERS WIN!!!!

What a game! Best Winter Classic yet IMO, even after the ridiculous officiating at the end obviously favoring the Flyers and trying hard as hell to send the game into OT or a shootout. I was screaming at my TV after the minor assessed to Callahan for diving when he was blatantly hooked, and then that bullshit penalty shot call at the end. King Henrik giving the refs a big "fuck you!" with his save on Briere's penalty shot was the highlight of the year so far!
