And softmods be blessed

Pretty much the same functions, however, withot opening your console, soldering stuff, and very easily reverseable.
The story is kinda funny, given that to backup Wii games you need nothing more than a softmod and the console itself, this tightens the noose very slightly around DS backups however, since they are done by flashcart.

Exactly.
the passed judgement is specifically for the DS cartridges!,

Pirating doesn't hurt software sales.
It increases hardware sales.
I mean, I know tons of people who bought the PSP specifically because of piracy/hackability to use as a portable emulator.
PS3 seems to have suffered vs 360 in a lot of areas due to the non-piratability of the PS despite Playstation literally being a synonym for game console in a lot of areas that had shitty nintendo distribution in the 8 and 16 bit eras.

Either I will download music I hear online, which makes them money, or I just go out and end up getting the CD if there are enough good songs on there. |
In the Wallstreet journal way back when the Ipod first came out and was big... they ran a study to see how much worse it would sell if they tweaked the Ipod to only accept propritary music files so that piracy would be much harder.
The results were not good.
Which is amusing now that Apple complains about how much piracy is "costing" them in the Ap store because they want jailbreaking to be illegal.

I think piracy probably does have an overall negative effect on games sales, but nowhere near as significant as the manufacturers would have you believe. The average gamer will still spend as much money as they have spare on the big titles since we love to have the originals of the best games. I think it most likely hurts the mediocre and bad games much more since you're not likely to shed out your hard-earned cash on something that's not so good when you can just get a copy.

Could just be that a number of the systems there are imports.
Well imports and hacked anyway, since I don't believe Wii is region free.

Well, I know I have a lot more games than I do systems and I don't have to buy one every time I get a new game! I haven't bought a new system in 3 years but I have bought over 100 games. I does go to show that piracy isn't the big issue though if the games are still selling so well.

The PS2 has sold over 135 million consoles. PS1 sold over 105 million consoles. Both PS1 and PS2 were two easy consoles to hack that helped increased hardware sales of both systems.
Instead of upgrading from PS2 to PS3. PS2 owners have bought either a 360 or a Wii because both 360 and Wii have mods. PSP and DS are all easy to mod/hack. PS3 is the odd one out but offers consumers Blu-Ray player, Wi-Fi, top end graphics games and high end CPU.
