With Sony releasing the data that PS3 is trailing behind the 360 by 2 million, Microsoft might be compelled to act now and drop the price. Not only to beat PS3 this year, but to hold their lead in general.

I hope they take whatever profit they can from MW3 and the 360 limited edition and drop the price a week or two after for all 360 skus

Doubtful, most retailers already have November sales advertisements in place including Black Friday advertisements. MS dropping price would cause a pretty big disruption to retailer plans. What you will see is even more special offers in December. Just this week. Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Kmart, and Amazon all have gift card deals on Xbox 360s.  I expect that every week between now and end of the year you will be able to get a deal on a 360.

Thats just not true. For retailers, its never too late to slash down prices if it means more sales. Heck when I use to work at retail, we implemented new price cuts and price offs 1st week of December. Needless to say, we just made make shift sinages to convey the new discounted prices.

Price offs and discounts = more potential sales.

So MS works with retailer(s) for a big black Friday promotion and the retailer produces signage and advertisements including those big deals and last minute MS just drops the price.  That doesnt cause a disruption?  All of a sudden there deal hoping to bring customers in and purchase other things is negated with an across the board price cut.  It is to late for November price cut.

Also by the way Toys R Us Friday/Saturday sale advertisement for this week just popped up and 360s with Kinect include gift card so add TRU to the list of deals this week.

Sure, why not? odder things have happened. As for advertising posters, signages and such, just print out the new prices on plain white paper, cut it and slap it ontop of the old prices indicated on the posters and other signages. easy as pie.

Not saying it isnt possible, just not very probable. I am certain that MS is not shocked that Sony was able to ship a few 100,000 extra PS3s the qtr that a price cut was implemented.  Wouldnt be difficult to get retailers to order extra as well with a price cut the Qtr before Christmas.

What I am saying is retail partners wouldnt be happy to have the Black Friday advertisements for Web and Print negated by a across the board price cut prior to Black Friday that negates what looks to be a big black friday sale product.

Yup, they'll be pissed as fuck. But, even if its like you said that its highly unlikely, if and its a big IF MS does suddenly decide to cut the price accross the board, Most if not all retailers will be pissed like shit but they'll still definitely adjust their prices even if they've put up signages. Not because MS says so, but because of fear that the competition (other retailers) will adjust their prices and they wont.

MWF3 will not push the 360 over the ps3, in case you haven't realized it, MWF3 is also on playstation 3....

Maybe on gaming forums we treat multiplats equal. But the real world treats MWF3 VERY differently depending on the platform.

360 is stereotyped for being shooter crazy, that gives COD a much better home on 360 then PS3  from the start. LIVE and more headsets make the community/clan based online gaming junkies more inclined for the 360. COD gamers don't like to wait, so they get 360 version for early map packs. And like the Gears 3 360 custom SKU, people will buy the MW3 Limited Edition 360.

Sure people on the gaming forums treat them all equal, but the real world sees MW3 as a 360 game and all other versions are the poor mans version, despite the quality that can be actually argued. You can't argue mass market consumer perception.

kinda like how on vgchartz, the 360 is shown as sometimes outselling ps3 but in the real world it never actually does.

We debate well yes. CoD should boost sales more then any other game this holiday. The only other comparable boost would be Black Friday, which would also be pro 360. yea your an ok debator lol. well the best this yr for me anyway. well yea MW3 should boost sells more then any game this yr., but we did have allot of good contenders for that top spot but in the end MW3 will kill. UC3 will do perfectly well in its own right looking to sell 1m ww first wk and likely staying in the 100k-300k range for sometime like GEARS3. i don't know about black friday being Pro 360. can you tell me any boundles 360 has for that day?

We're biased, but not fanboys. We realize our bias and preference in games and don't force it onto others. dito.

AHHH good point about FFXIII-2 Japanese launch in Japan. Looks like overall December may be pretty even too. That game is huge in Japan.

yep and its still bigger on PS3 in the Americas so i expect a boost from it there aswell. i found out the name of that RPG. its Ni No Kuni and that should also keep PS3 ahead Nov. and Dec. Ni No Kuni will be released in the EMEAA's and Americas in 2012. in March.

MS will likely bundle several games for Black Friday. I heard as much as 5 games will be bundled, and not too bad choices I hear. I hear Alan Wake, Halo 3 and a Fable, but I can't remember where I heard this from. hum ok. no not bad at all but  Halo3 is what 4yr's old, Fable isn't really that big, and neither is Alan wake but this gives many 360 fans that have yet to buy the console a reason to pick one up.

the thing is Sony has more resent games for bundles. games released this yr. LBP2, Infamous2, and i think KZ3 with some sort of GT5 thing going on. the 360 IMO has great bundles, but standalone sells PS3 has the better ones when talking about Fable and Alanwake, and Halo3 is older then allot of things in life lol.

MW3 is different from Battlefield. 360 has always had a stronger tie ratio among CoD fans then PS3, and with the 100k limited edition MW3 package, I'm confident 360 will sell well that week, and likely more then PS3.

yea sure, but i think i'll take a wait and see approach cause i like eating eggs cooked, not using them as facial cream. hey you still got some egg on you nose lol.

The week after I dunno. Japanese gamers like coloured consoles, but American gamers like Halo. I think 360 should edge it, but barely.

well the PSP colors sold well in the Americas, but these colors still have no release date to my knowledge for the america's.

With Halo: CEA I will finally own a copy of every Halo hehe. I borrowed Halo for PC in the past, but never owned a legit copy myself. Ahh good old ms, milking the Halo franchise. lol i couldn't agree more.

I have a history??? you know it was a typo. well it was bond to happen to me eventualy lol considering how many you had last time lol.

I think Black Friday will be pro 360 because Black Friday is a US specific sales event, and in the US 360 typically outsells PS3 on a given week 2:1. It's less in the holidays, but 360 is always more favored, and if you look back at BF data, 360 always got a bigger boost (I think).

FFXIII-2 doesn't release outside of Japan intil late January, so only Japans boost is relevant here, and it will be big. Guess PS3 at best, could match 360 this fall overall.

I just have faith in Kinect. It's a stupid gimmick, but these gimmicks tend to push consoles. I think Nov/Dec numbers will be strong for MS due to Kinect, and If MS was smart they would make a cool Kinect bundle, not like the one they have now.

PS3 bundles have newer games, yea, but it's not like Uncharted 3 will push that many more new gamers to buy a PS3 is Uncharted 2 did. It will obviously still push some, but many limited edition console buyers will buy the console out of sheer fanboyism. They did this for Halo and Gears in the past as well.

With the 360 multi-game bundles, new gamers get a deal, and get 1 game from each major exclusive franchise, or from most of them. That I would imagine, would appeal to new console buyers more, and as they beat those older games, then they will get the newer versions used. They are clearly in no rush if they have no console yet.

Console colours never come outside of Japan anymore. It's a shame because I really liked the N64 colours, and I waited to get my Wii in a special ed colour (got red). I think the White PS3 boosted sales in Japan in 2010 by 30k in mid summer for a week, so multi colours could boost PS3 sales by 50-100k during the fall, which seems exactly like that Halo: CEA will do.

I don;t get your comment about my history...

So, Microsoft have said, a few times, that they plan to be #1 in sales, for 2011. Sales not shipments.

What have they got up their sleeve? Are they just talking the talk? Or just bonkers.

I'll track the 360's progress against the only rival above it now, the PS3. (although I do think 3DS will go above both, not sure if MS are counting handhelds)

And this comes from a guy who thinks xbox has chance of outselling ps2 in america...

But it does have a chance. Both this year and next year will be massive for the 360 in America. This year due to how well it's selling already and next year due to the price cut.

And then it will sell at least a couple of years after that.

shit -1 new post, need to keep looking orange square with white "!" again, annoying

It does not have the slightest chance. It needs to sell 25m+ in its last dying years. That is almost 100% of what it sold LTD, and there's no chance of that happening, even if it has 10 Halos coming out next year. Hell, next 2 years would need to be as good or better than 2005,2006,2007,2008,2009,2010 and 2011 COMBINED !!. Seriously, anypne who thinks this has the slightest chance of happening is extremely delusional abouth the subject
