Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox 360 Vs. Playstation 3 2012 - *February* Update

Sweet! Regardless of how this turns out, this will be a fun one to follow.

Now, tell Kowen to update his best year for 360 thread!

Around the Network

I'm willing to bet my avatar with anyone that this will not happen.

Any takers?

With the recent adjustments taking the PS3 lead to almost 1.2 Million, I don't see this happening at all now. Even with a pricecut during November.

All thats needed is for the Xbox360 to outsell the ps3 198000 consoles per week for the rest of the year for Dodece to win his bet, so no panic yet.

All bow to me the VGChartz current reigning 3DS prediction champion

Bet with tbone51: Pokeon X & pokemon Y will not sell more than 8 million in 2013

July 2009 daveJ saidTrue the wii has a large lead now but by 2017 the most likely result will be 1. ps3 2. xbox360 3. wii <-- wii's successor launched in 2011 effectively killing sales of the wii

Halo doesn't come for a few more weeks, I was speaking of this week.  That 198,000/week (for Dodece's bet of 360 selling 1 mil more than the PS3) is just going to get bigger til probably mid-late Nov.  Plus, pre-oder numbers show that while Halo Anniversary is going to open nicely, it will be NOWHERE near a new Halo game would open.  As for Kinect, no SW announced for this year is going to propel it to its sales to being close to last year.  Star Wars Kinect may have helped, but it was delayed til 2012.

doesn't dance central come out this week? anyways halo is looking to do great' amazing if you consider it's a remake it will have around the same life time sales as uncharted 3.. more or less anyways but not by much

as of right now xbox will kill america because sony isn't even trying there, i mean compare the bundle's it obvious that microsoft is putting more effort into theres... but for emmea ps3 will kill over there, because of the silver and white ps3's and the better bundling

as for xbox overtaking ps3, i don't think it will unless a pricecut

Oh, and just to take Dedoce's bet out of this, the 360 is going to have to outsell the PS3 by ~84.5K a week from now on just to tie with the PS3. However, I don't see sales really starting to pick up that greatly for the 360, at least to the point where it could outsell the PS3, til November. So if the gap continues to grow by 20K til, say Nov. 8th (release of MW3), then that means the 360 is going to have to outsell the PS3 by ~155K a week just to tie with the PS3. Of course, I see the PS3 outselling the 360 by at least 81K the last week of Dec, like it did last year. So, in the end, the 360 is going to have to pull off selling more than the PS3 by 189K for 7 weeks straight, starting the week ending Nov 12.

This IS impossible. Even with a price cut. I see it MAYBE selling close to that for about 3 weeks: MW3 launch week, Black Friday week, and the week of Christmas. But, it just won't be able to pull that off for 7 weeks straight. Not with the recent price cut for the PS3 (first time its been available for $250), Uncharted 3 WW, and FF 13-2 in Japan.

Just for comparison's sake, last year the 360 was only able to outsell the PS3 by ~180K one week, which was the week of Christmas. And that was mostly because of Kinect. In other words, Kinect is going to have to have an INSANELY larger impact than it did last year, when it was BRAND NEW. Either that, or MS is going to have to drop the 4GB model and sell the 250GB model for $199, while at the same time dropping the Kinect to $50 and have the the Kinect 360 bundle at $249. That's the ONLY way it can pull it off.

the problem with xbox is emmea and japan combined pulls better sales then america hell even emmea does alot of the time and since those 2 ps3 outperforms xbox in it puts them into a tough situation
