Yea, but MS did support the X-Box 1 until it died due to low demand. They never killed it, and they supported XBL for 4 years on XB1 after the system was discontinued. Ontop of that 360 is the only system to have BC to last gen. There is no signs that MS will just drop the 360 and discontinue it when the next gen comes out. MS will likely follow suite with Sony, they only difference I see possible is I think Sony is more likely to release a game on PS3 after the release of PS4, where MS likely won't outside of a Kinect exclusive. good points. i'm just not sure.

Like you said "Sony will keep it (the PS3) on the market and third parties will continue to support it." With the extreme overlap of third party games, and the generalization that third party games sell better on 360 then PS3 (only counter examples I can thing of are FIFA, RE5, and some NFS's), it's likely 360 will continue to sell as long as PS3. Neither MS or Sony will discontinue the system if it's still selling. Neither have in the past, and there is no signs that one will discontinue a product before the other. i don't know. if i'm thinking like MS then i'd want to get a head start and not confuse the market like it looks like Sony will. ops to much speculation.

360 having a peak year after 5 years does mean trends are important. Before the 6th gen, the only system to not peak in 2 years were low volume Sega consoles, and the GBA. DS peaked in 4 years, PS3 and Wii in 3, and overall this is showing that generations are longer now then they were before. Sony stated that they wanted PS3 to be around for 10 years, and it's happening. Trends are crutial to making smart gaming decisions. and future proof technology.

That joke prediction you made had 1 critical flaw. It lacks intelectual backing. You can't hopelessly rely on trends, but you should still look at them and try to understand why they happened and what they mean. Yes 360 peaked in 5 years, but it also released earliest. PS3 had a very strong 4th year, despite a 3rd year peak. If Sony released the Slim PS3 in 2010 instead of 2009, I bet you 2010 would have been PS3's peak. maybe but thats more speculation then i can handle. the thing is that it wasn't a joke prediction and in comparison to the original prediction PS3 stayed at 60m and 360 went up 4m from 58 to 62.

i did the prediction based on how the market looked at that time cause eventhough PS3 droped 200k-300k to 500k in the last wk of Dec. last yr it still seemed as if PS3 would more then lead the 360 by this yrs end.

the thing that changed was when my prediction that Sony would sell 50m by the end of march came true. i'm more sound then i let on but its nice to see what other people are thinking to.  Sony made the added 5m they needed to make there sell throught not the only problem the face is droping 200k-300k on the last wk of Dec. 2011. if that happens they won't recover in timeduring Jan-March which have always been kind to Sony to make there 15m prediction come true, and 2011 will be there peak yr and they'll be looking at 14m+ like last yr instead of 15m like they expect.

An example of a good trend is, 360 sells more during the holidays. There is intelectual backing here. First of all 360 does typically gain most of it's sales in Q4 (more percentage-wise of it's total then any other console). Second, Kinect is a casual peripheral, and like Wii Fit and Just Dance, it will sell a lot better during the holidays. We can't predict is too easily since this is only the second year of Kinect, but we know it will do well. 3rd is Seeces arguement, most hardware does sell a lot better in it's second year then it's first, and many people consider Kinect almost it's own system. all points taken and agreed with. what we've seen in the last 10 months is Sony lead 360 like they have for wht 2-4 yrs or so. MS and ninty are proven during the holiday season and theres no denying that, but Sony has never been truley out of reach in this area. most of the time there right on MS and Ninty heals so its not a beat down of sorts. its more of an attempted comeback at the end of the race for MS while ninty continues to lead the yr.

this yr is different but only for ninty. they face the comback that MS normaly faces, but for some reason i don't think Ninty cares that much. there done and moving on and will let wht ever 3rd party that wants to work on wii do so until they get tired of manufacturing the Wii.

i am now just starting to believe that ninty was never apart of this race, but i always beleaved that each console maker were in there own time period doing there own thing sells wise. it didn't matter that PS3 was 3m ahead of 360 if they released in the same yr. it didn't matter that ninty out sold both consoles on a constant bases. and it didn't matter that 360 caused the disruption and was successful at it.

the only thing that mattered was who controled the market and that was MS.

Seece made some good points, I disagree in the end, but we need some MS support on this site. So many articles on VGC that say "PS3 will dominate the World because" and less people object to those. People just need to accept others opinions. agreed about the opinion part but we don't need any MS will dominate the world threads, cause in the end Ninty dominated better then the rest and thats wht Sony and MS fans need to except.

Wii is not last gen. it just broke all of last gen's records and beat the holly hell out of its comp this gen, so thats the kind of threads we need. we need more about the console that won and not the ones people wanted to win, cause no body dominates like the leader. and the leader will always be king. DS the only console to sell 50m in the us! PS2. the only home console to top 150m sold WW, and every console that won there gens are the only consoles the deserve those braging rights!

you know. i made a thread about the facts, and why we can't just focus on that. well i got answers that i expected. who wants to face the fact there console lost to the losseres of last gen. well i had all 3 so i still came in first. i have all 3 this gen to. so guess wht place i'm going to come in when this gen ends?

the only thing is i only play 2 of those consoles and 1 of those 2 is 75% of that play while the other 25% is another part making up 1 whole console so that leaves 1 console, and you know which one it is.

Speaking of 15 million fiscal year predictions, didn't MS announce they would sell 15m 360's for the fiscal year ending June 2012? Sony did the same too did they not? They could both have tricks up their sleeves. considering the 2012 fiscal yr ends in 2013 i don't think MS has spoken on it but i believe you mean the 2011 fiscal yr which ends in 2012. i think MS expects to sell 13m. they just think they can out sell PS3 this yr.

If PS3 released the same year, it may not have been ahead of 360. You gotta realize 2005 was a very slow year for 360, and 2006 wasn't much better. Every year more any more people in general got into this gen. If PS3 released the same year as 360, it would have been affected by the same market. Meaning 2009 was a strong year for both manufacturers, regardless of when they released. If PS3 released earlier, it would have taken advantage of that strong year later, and peaker later, with a more gradual sales curve. its a paradox that doens't exists. the reason i said it is becuase of the sells ratio and wht it means in relative times, but that can't  truely be proven cause we don't live in a reality where MS and Sony releasd there consoles in 2005. the other thing is that PS3 sold 16-17m in its first 2 yrs while 360 sold 12-13m in its first 2 yrs, so PS3 has meen leading or outselling the 360 since its second yr.

i don't have the numbers infront of me so i can't truely say Sony has out sold them that long, but i think they did. but the sells i posted are spot on. i went over it every day that yr so i couldn't for get it.  

We don't need ANY ____ will dominate the world threads. You would be surprised how many PS3 threads like this there are, we should debate on of those instead one day because no one here does, and I don't get why. yea we don't need threads that talks about one console dominating the other no matter whos doing the dominating. also the thread title for this thread should read i think the 360 will overtake the PS3 not it will cause thats speculation that the OP can't back up with any kind of proof.

the OP talks about what MS said there going to do not what they will do and thats all the OP has to go on. to 1 lick of proof. the funnier thing is that Sony has said this exact samething so its nothing more then a mute point and just like my other post with everything canceling out. this would do the same.

PS2 and DS both broke 56 million in the US, no system has broken 150million sales, but DS and PS2 have shipped over 150 million systems.srry but theres already a thread up that says PS2 has only sold 46m in the U.S. and its already been reported that the PS2 has sold over 150m units WW.

You stopped playing Wii or 360? both mainly, but i'm still more active on the Wii.

I had all 3 consoles, not at 1 time though. My PS3 broke, so I got a Wii. Now I have a 3600/Wii combo, which ironically enough was cheaper then a PS3 at one point, and what most people said in 2006, was the best gaming option. I play the 360 alone, and Wii with friends, the split is probably also 75-25. yea about like me. hey if you get a PS3 you can friend me.

If you're deducing correctly than LOL what a hippocrite, talking about the pointlessness of price cuts while anticipating an enormous impact from one in the future. Of course only if you're correct. Even then I doubt a $50 cut will be enough to turn things around for MS, especially after the adjustments we'll be seeing after NPD and likely again once quarterly reports come in.

ive made it clear on which console i believe will be #1 for 2011 a long time ago unlike certain users i dont need to wait for more data and time to go by or even for a company to announce there going to be number one before making a thread

as of right now even with my beliefs and what the stars have told me i wouldnt be surprised if MS can steal the year, 360 is up in NA from last yr Jan- now and thats with the relaunch it had last yr, from now till end of dec the 360 sold 2M more than the PS3 in NA i see that number being higher this year.  i believe MW3 and BF3 and skyrim will have a bigger effect than last yr with kinect, i believe people do not know how big MW3 will be similar to how they didnt see how big BO would be... even on the PS3

in all the other regions the ps3 outsold the 360 by only 1.5M last yr from mid oct. till end of 2010 if the 360 and ps3 performer relatively the same as last yr this would give the overall edge to the 360 by 500k.  but as i mentioned before in here the 360 would need a price cut at least in EU (since thats the region there down from last yr) to keep things the same as they where last yr, but with my forecast of 360 performing better in NA this yr which "could" account for an extra 500k or so, its kinda hard for me not seeing this as "possibility" of happening

ok enough is enough. i've had to do this one post 3 times. these servers need to be fixed so the site can stop crashing. it doesn't help that the page gets reloaded when the server can't be found.

If MS thinks they can outsell the PS3 this year, without a price cut, then I expect strong Kinect marketing again. i don't see that helping. i'm not confident kinect can repeat those sells.

For that PS3/360 alligned launch arguement. All I am saying is you just can't shift 2008 figures into 2007 if PS3 were released a year earlier. What I would expect is that if PS3 launched in 2005, then PS3 would have seen super low sales that first year because in 2005 PS2 was crazy popular, and 7th gen consoles were not in demand yet. So PS3 would likely have been above the 360 if that were the case, but I would argue it would have been <1 million. i still can't make that arguement cause we don't live in a time where it would happen or did happen so i can't argue that cause it speculation. i was just making a general arguement that has been made over the yrs.

I can't argue with you and the OP. Seems like you should take it up with Seece. I see these types of threads too often, and I know most people will not edit their OP or title. Some will (in the case of a FFXIII Versus MP thread), but few will. i'd talk to Machina about it if it was that important but its not. as far as i'm concerned its his thread so he can title it the way he wants, but its misleading.

My PS3 broke, right now I just borrow a friends PS3 time to time to play the exclusives. I'm busy with school now, so I probably won't get the PS3 until next summer, and I'll be playing Uncharted 2 and InFamous 2 then. same here. i won't have UC3 till next yr anyway.

@Jay - I'm not going to go look, but generally on this website we do see more PS3 will be #1 threads then any other console. I think postofficebuddy has a link to one in his post above me, didn't even have to leave the page and I found one lol. and that matters why? let it go M5. you'll kill your self going into that conversation. maybe i'm not making this hard enough for you. i can if you want?
