Open-world or semi-open action games. (Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption, Demon's Souls, Ratchet & Clank)

Stealth games. (Metal Gear Solid, Hitman, old Socom, old Splinter Cell).

Straight up action games. (God of War, Batman, Uncharted)

Competitive shooters. (Halo, Left 4 Dead, old Socom, Killzone)

I would argue that most of the games you mentioned are shooters of different subtypes.

I would say that Uncharted is more a third-person action/adventure game, since there's an equal amount (at least to me) of shooting elements and exploring/platforming (even if it's linear); some people classify it as a third-person shooter and I can see that. Something similar, like Gears of War, only has a point A to point B approach, with shooting in between.

no fighting games?? cause that is my favorite genre, damn near unlimited replayability

I can't fit all the genres on the poll. I did forget puzzle and fighting games.

fair enough, truth be told i like just about everything. RTSs are not my thing, just started getting into point and click games(phoenix wright), exercise "games" dont have no need for since im not a fat ass. I cant stand MMOs, the only genre i will absouletly not play. Not really into sim games either(Maddens, NBAs, GTs, Forzas)

MMOs can be very addicting; I got addicted to the PS2 Everquest game and pretty much only played that for 4 years. I'd advise not ever trying out a MMO and sticking with it, since you'll be playing nothing else but that for a good while.

Platformers.

I wouldn't be a game player if they didn't exist.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Do you think people who grew up with the NES seem to like platformers more than others who didn't?

Played that on PC, didnt like it, played a bit of SWs didnt take, play FF11 wasnt bad, played WOW for a bit, got bored, like really bored. I dont see how people could play those games, its like a massive level grind with no point, thats just how I feel

I think it's more of the social aspect, mixed with gaming, without setting foot outside and being able to sit there in your underwear, downing Doritos and Mountain Dew :P

RPGs indeed.

For a while there I was in a massive shooter phase, but now I'm more diverse. I like racing, sports, RPG's and of course still shooters.

My favourite is probably shooters still, but RPG's are a close second. I love Fallout 3/New Vegas because while they are an RPG they are heavy on shooting and stuff.

You could make that argument, but I would say most of the games I mentioned aren't competitve shooters...or at least they aren't good competitive shooters.

There are plenty of subcatagories of shooters and that is my point even in GTA ,Uncharted, Red Dead Mass Effect and Ratchet shooting is a big aspect.  So I am just saying the shooter catagory really is not specific enough. My main point is to say almost every popular game has shooting as one of its major parts.

I still consider RPGs to be my favorite genre just that I have been unable to really play any lately due to time constraints that I have. But I still own a lot of RPGs that I would consider to be my favorite games so definitely should be #1
