Open-world or semi-open action games. (Mass Effect, Red Dead Redemption, Demon's Souls, Ratchet & Clank)

Stealth games. (Metal Gear Solid, Hitman, old Socom, old Splinter Cell).

Straight up action games. (God of War, Batman, Uncharted)

Competitive shooters. (Halo, Left 4 Dead, old Socom, Killzone)

I would argue that most of the games you mentioned are shooters of different subtypes.

You could make that argument, but I would say most of the games I mentioned aren't competitve shooters...or at least they aren't good competitive shooters.

There are plenty of subcatagories of shooters and that is my point even in GTA ,Uncharted, Red Dead Mass Effect and Ratchet shooting is a big aspect.  So I am just saying the shooter catagory really is not specific enough. My main point is to say almost every popular game has shooting as one of its major parts.
