Forums - Gaming Discussion - CNN says video games is a reason for lack of ambition in men.

CNN today posted an article entitled “Why men are in trouble”. In typical mainstream media fashion, videogames are the source of all our problems. Click past the jump for some quotes I would like to share with you.

Today, 18-to- 34-year-old men spend more time playing video games a day than 12-to- 17-year-old boys. While women are graduating college and finding good jobs, too many men are not going to work, not getting married and not raising families. Women are beginning to take the place of men in many ways. This has led some to ask: do we even need men?

What an excellent question. Does society even need men anymore? Probably not.

“So what’s wrong? Increasingly, the messages to boys about what it means to be a man are confusing. The machismo of the street gang calls out with a swagger. Video games, television and music offer dubious lessons to boys who have been abandoned by their fathers. Some coaches and drill sergeants bark, “What kind of man are you?” but don’t explain.

We may need to say to a number of our twenty-something men, “Get off the video games five hours a day, get yourself together, get a challenging job and get married. It’s time for men to man up.”

So, there you have it. CNN once again prove they’re specialists at over-generalising and picking on gamers at any given opportunity. So yeah, follow this guy’s advice; man up and get married. It’s the only way.

I got off the couch, found a challenging job, and I'm damn near married. If I could go back in time, I'd tell young d21lewis to play as many video games he possibly could. The alternative is soul crushing and ball breaking.

Well, apparently a lot of men have asked themselves if they need women and decided that, no, they don't. Between the porn and the vidya, who even has the time to deal with some yammering cunt?

Stfu cnn.....that is all.

I'm married w/ 3 kids... have a master's... have a challenging job... and play games at most 5hrs a week.... Granted during my bachelors degree I didn't even own a gaming console and only played occasional PC games like Civilization.

I do agree that playing games daily for many hours as an adult is not a good idea. However, its no different than watching TV all day or sleeping all day. Its simply wasted time that could be better utilized if you have the need.

However, as a past-time entertainment option, like anything else, there are no issues. This article should really focus on general wasted time in entertainment not focusing on one item.

This may be not true for a few VGChartz users. Well, usually I spend more time here or reading about games than properly gaming.

As a university graduate with 2 degrees and a good career how about I provide an alternative suggestion ...

Men in their 20's and 30's are the first generation who were raised to believe that everything about being a man was "wrong" and "sexist" by institutions and organizations that are heavily manipulated by feminist academics and social engineers. These men have now escaped into their own fantasy worlds believing that the world has no "purpose" for them, while their absence has left a large portion of the social structure collapsing around them.

I depise the thought of Marriage and children.

I went to the best business school in Canada, work at the fourth largest accounting firm in the world, am pursing my CA designation, and I am getting married next year. Although I avidly game, I also find time to go out, socialize, and spend quality time with my fiance, so I don't see how this can apply.

Yes, and women don't waste equal amounts of time watching TV and sitting on social networking sites. They're all apparently hard-working machines.
