Forums - Sports - The NFL Thread 2011: New York Giants Win Super Bowl XLVI

Saw the last two quarters of this game due to the horrible team choices and doing other things. I have to say it was miraculous to see New England lose. The Mannings must take some good guy super pill that helps them defeat trash like the the Patriots. Eli is my favorite quarterback since Elway since he continually destroys the dreams of teams like the Packers and the Patriots.

But really he is MR super clutch like I thought all along.

Congrats to the Giants. America screamed anybody but the Patriots and we got our wish.

"it was they..." ;)

But yeah, the packers deserve no hate

Damn you, Wes Welker...

This pretty much sums up why the Pats lost.  Them challenging the Mario Manningham catch didn't help much either they could have uses that exra time out in the last minute of the game.

The Baltimore Ravens or the Houston Texans need to make it to the next Super Bowl to stop the AFC's drought both teams need to work on their passing offense. Defensively they have more then enough great players to win it all.

Dude, I'm from NY and usually root against all Texas teams (wanted Mavs last season though) but lemme say, I'm seriously pulling for the Texans in the AFC in the near future. There is one reason I am doing this....Arian Foster. That dude seems like the nicest, most humble high level pro athelete I've ever heard speak, his head is just in the right place IMO.

NOW, on the to the goodness of the mother fuckin' G-Men. Um yeah, feels good, feels good. It was a close game like I had imagined it would be and another good Super Bowl game. To the guy calling Eli lucky on that throw, go listen to what the guys on ESPN or ESPN news are saying about it. That throw was PERFECT! The combination of throw and catch IMO is better than the Tyree play from a pure skill perspective because the catch with the feet was on point too and that ball landing right in his mitts looks so pretty in slow-mo. Luck my ass. So Eli is the man, the Giants win, NY fanbase is happy to beat NE.....life is good.

Respect to Brady and the Pats though. I bust balls with the people I know who are all Boston everything but I have a healthy respect for the Pats and Sox, I just always root against them :)

I want Andre Johnson to win a Super Bowl but with the HOF snub of wide receivers lately he probably needs more then one ring to be a first ballot hall of famer.

Giants by 7.

Sooo close.

So now that Eli has beaten Brady twice in the Super Bowl are people laughing at him for saying that he is in the same class as him at the beginning of this season?

Eli is a very good in the regular season and unbelievable in the playoffs. He is one of the few QBs that I have ever seen that actually is better when the pressure is on. The man's clutch and people need to stop talking trash about him.

That wasn't barely, there was at least half a yard of room left to the sideline. So much bitterness in your post.

I didn't know half a yard was so much room (half a yard is barely in my book even for NFL).  When they slowed it down he had the tip of one of his foot still on the ground right before it lifted (when he had total possession).  I had the entire game on mute so I didn't pay any attention to what the announcers were saying or anything.  I just looked at the play and it was all luck on Eli part (he even threw it off his back foot) and all skill on the receiver.  It also helped that both defenders weren't even looking for the ball.  Basically, it reminded me of the helmet catch because that was a thrown up for grabs ball too.  If anything I would credit most of his team more than him.  He managed the game decently and didn't make too many mistakes but that is about all you can say about him.  Bitterness in my post?  Well I know good football when I see it and that really wasn't that good of football last night.  Patriots were sloppy and had ton of penalties (crucial penalties on New England like when they stopped a drive but got penalized for 12 man on field).  Giants couldn't stop fumbling yet kept maintaining possession.  I could dwell deeper into the game why I wasn't impressed but I'll just stop and forget about the NFL for now.

Basically, I don't like it when a sport has the championship decided on just one game.  The Giants beat the Patriots during the regular season I give you that, but I don't consider them the better team unless they won a best of 3 series in the playoffs.  Sure you can't have these series for football because it is too physically "demanding" (I'd argue less than what it was a few decades back).  Basically, I hate having one game decide it all.  Sports with championship series will show who the actual better team is.  Super Bowl just reminds me of stupid ass BCS game.

Imo though compared to the last few superbowls there were fewer incomplete, fumbles and there was only one interception.

Meaning, the QB's were both playing really well. Its just the patriots receivers were catching the ball well.

I think both QB's were setting records for completed passes.
