Something that I was just thinking about, and I'm sure that it'll apply to some of the people here.

If your console of choice was made by one of their competitors instead, would you have bought the console?

If Nintendo made the PS3 (under a different name) rather than Sony, would you still have bought it? How about if Microsoft created the Wii instead of the 360?

Honestly, I'm not sure if I would have bought the Wii if it was made by a competitor, and that made me realise how ridiculous the current state of the console war is. It's often not a case of quality or entertainment - it's just people wanting their company of choice to make more money than someone else's. Upon this realisation, I'm definitely going to be more open-minded in the future as far as videogames go.

As long as a console has at least 6 or 7 games I want, I´ll buy it, don´t care who manufactures it.
So, to answer the OP...yes, provided it´d get games that interested me.

I own a Wii and a PS3, if they switched I'd probably hate it.

good one but no i wouldn't. just because MS would be manufacturing PS3 it wouldn't take away there flaws.

look at it like this. the most common arguments made about the big3 consoles under your idea.

MS+PS3=RROD and the shooter box
Sony+Wii=bad launch, would still be HD
Ninty+PS3= shovel-ware, abandoning the hardcore, wouldn't be HD or 3rd place

see things wouldn't change much. you can remove the console from its maker, but not the company from the type of product they make.

when i get a ps3 or ps4 it will also be on the merits and price of the system and not the company that makes it.

I don't have a loyalty for any company so yes. In fact, I already have a 360 and a PS3 so in a sense I already bought something made by a "rival".

However if a company screws me over don't expect me to support them.

It depends on how different to what I expect from the company it is. If not too different, I would go for the brand that has provided the most of my entertainment thus far. But after realising this is not what I want I would change later or perhaps next gen. If Sony makes a "Wii" I'll wait a bit, see were it goes, and act accordingly (not purchasing in this case).

If I get an Sony "Xbox" instead I'll be happier, though I'll still realise the MS "PS3" has exclusives that appeal more to me, free online, etc, so I'll end up considering it for later in the gen or next gen.

So far I haven't had to face that question because I've been happy with Sony (sometimes Nintendo as an extra) for three gens. Wii and 360 have some games that appeal to me (Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Alan Wake, Mass Effect) but not nearly enough to warrant a purchase.

I wouldn't of bought my PS3 if it was made by Nintendo. Mostly because i'd of just thought they hadn't learned there lesson from the GameCube.

The others i got as gifts, but same as 360 logic applies to PS3.

Wii i'd of gotten anyway, since I wasn't going to get it, and only did because of all the word of mouth.
