Forums - Politics - Protest footage in NY, SHOCKING!

OP seems to be missing the purpose of the protesters here... their main intent is to call intention to themselves by stirring up shit with the authorities, and then trying to portray themselves as the poor downtrodden victims being kept down and oppressed by "the man" and then post the video online presenting only their side or point of view to try to garner false sympathy from the media and others, which is typical of their ilk.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of peaceful protests held by all kinds of people and groups every year in the US, from union workers picketing the companies they work for (like Verizon recently), to groups promoting social causes, and police rarely, if ever, have to get involved in any of these protest events because the organizers do a good job of abiding by the rules and extend respect and courtesy to the non-protesters and law enforcement officers around them.

Groups like the one in the video however are on the fringe of that spectrum and revel in the conflict and tension they create between themselves and the authorities. You usually see groups like this whenever there's an economic summit in town like the G8 or G20, and especially during the major presidential political conventions, which are being held next year for both parties in the US. This is why there are almost always cops in riot gear deployed at these events... so they are prepared to deal with the assholes once they start getting out of hand.

So next time you see a bunch of snotty, college-age white kids on video at a protest screaming "police brutality!" or "don't taze me bro!", you might want to get the whole picture first before getting all outraged at law enforcement for their actions.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Punks deserve it everywhere.

as for your question, i'd rather not say.

People are idiots. They are protesting all the wrong things.

They should be protesting things like the Patriot Act, government debt spending, the continuing war in the middle east, etc. Quit bothering the good people of Wall Street who are providing most of the jobs in America.

Well, I hope you are joking, otherwise you're coming off as an arrogant asshole which you happily admit it.

They're protesting Wall street and all their corruption, I suggest you look up the current nonsense as it's all very interesting and actually very shocking.

No.

They're protesting AT Wal-street.

About companies influencing politics.

Which is like protesting coke's bottling factories by sitting in on wallstreet.

If they want to protest this stuff.... they should be protesting at the whitehouse.

Or if they want to stay in NY, basically any corproate headquarters in Ny.

Or at least that's what it was initially, now they're just protesting anything they can think of.

I'd say the greatest flaw though, just lies in the inconsistent message.

It seems like they're demanding government action to try and limit the effect corporations have to sway rules there way and to create jobs....

When government is exactly WHY corporations have such abilities.

To propose more government action is how you get Stimulus bills that get spent on nothing to help and just run up the costs for the average consumer, and how you get laws like Dodd Frank, which are essentially designed to kill small businesses to the advantage of bigger ones. (In this case, banks.)   Chris Dodd being like, the biggest bank schill in either party.  (Lost in the whole anti-bank movement is that historically democrats get more donations from banks then republicans.)

Oh, and also greatly hinder job creation since now, it's going to be hard as hell to get loans.

The only long term jobs government can create are government jobs... and as Greece has shown, you don't want to have an economy that relies on government jobs, because it's just a case of diminishing returns.

It's all a very silly approach.

You need a concentrated approach that if anything forces polticians to take powers away from themselves.

Otherwise they'll just right loophole after loophole into their own bills so everything looks better but isn't.

I mean shit, anyone who's been paying attention would of noticed this already what with the constant campaign finance laws that were added with giant loopholes.  Like the good old "Toothpick rule."

The only real options are

A)Getting private money out elections all together

B) Get rid of governments ability to play favorites in the market place.

And Option A actually isn't an option since it's a violation of the first ammendment.

It's indeed silly, but at least it is an approach.

i dunno, I mean, throwing gasoline on a burning fire is also a silly approach, and that seems to be the issue here.

There "solutions" are in reality going to make the problems worse.

Jt's like people backing the President's job bill.

All it's going to do is boost employment in the short term by a very small number while delaying the recovery, yet again.
