I don't understand why it's so expensive there. How much is computer hardware?

Brazil has a massive 100%+ tariff on electronic imports. Because of that, its impossible to offer affordable goods that are imported. So the result is insanely expensive products unless they are indigenous.

Because of this move, they can make the console(s) in Brazil, offering them for far more reasonable prices.

Do you know if Nintendo and Sony approach this the same way, or if they still import? Could MS get a massive leg up here?

For almost 10 years "Playstation" was synonymous with "video game" and 10 years before "Nintendo" and "Megadrive" vied for the post.

However, I think, 99% of the "Playstation One" and PS2 were pirated.

As the PS3 in the beginning could not be unlocked and the 360 was easy, the customer base has changed a lot.

MS 360 officially launched in Brazil in 2006 and only Sony did the same with the PS3 last year.

For praticly 10 years "Playstation" was sinonimos

Wait I'm confused. Do they expect the 360 to sell about 50k weekly in Brazil? 0_o
I must be reading this wrong.

I don't see 50k in the article anywhere? All I see is 17k.

I was talking about the title but now that I've read it again I see that they would produce 50k 360s there weekly, not sell.

How much costs an Xbox with 250GB in Brazil today and how much will it cost after the price cut?

I know but I think the title is incorrect, as 50k isn't anywhere in the article, maybe he meant 17k.

I don't see how you could mix up the numbers 50 and 17
