Warriors Orochi Sequel Announced

Like most Tecmo Koei Musou series games, Musou Orochi will be getting a sequel. The latest Famitsu has a first look at Musou Orochi 2.

The original Musou Orochi, known as Warriors Orochi internationally, was released on PS2 and Xbox 360 in 2007. The game is a crossover of the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors games, bringing together characters from the two titles.

A followup, Musou Orochi Maou Sairin, or Warriors Orochi 2 internationally, followed the next year on PS2, Xbox 360 and PSP. A PS3 entry, Musou Orochi Z/Warriors Orochi Z, was released in 2009 and combined the first two games.

Musou Orochi 2 is due for PS3/360 release this December. Famitsu shows Kaguya as a new character addition.

Players can create custom scenarios for the game. These can be uploaded to a server for other players to download. Players can leave comments about user created scenarios, helping to build up a community of Orochi fans.

The magazine says that the game will have over 120 characters -- the most for the series

I can't wait for this. I swear that ports/sequels of games I currently play get announced, as I was playing Persona 4, then Atlus announced Persona 4: The Golden for Vita. Now, I'm playing Warriors Orochi 2 and now they announce this. I sincerely hope they keep the weapon system from WO2, so it allowed for a lot of different combinations for characters.

120 Characters! Wow that is a lot!

It is a lot, considering when Warriors Orochi 2 for PS2/360 was released in the US (don't know why they're going with the same name, but it will probably be called Warriors Orochi 3 if it gets localized), there were something like 90ish characters. There's a good chance this might be localized because they are releasing it for PS3 and 360 in Japan, which is not something KOEI has done with previous releases of theirs in Japan.

Japanese games are doing well right now, so everyone it seems is jumping on the send games over seas bandwagon! Which is great for everyone.

Yeah, and I'm excited for this because I love the sheer amount of characters in the game, as well as the basic gameplay they kept from the old Dynasty Warriors games. As it says in that link, Warriors Orochi 2 that we got outside of Japan was named Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin in Japan, meaning this is a direct sequel to the first game, pretty much.

I also hope that they send over that One Piece DW style game :P

Custom battles? Sweet, I've been waiting for that forever, never actually expecting it to happen.

still wish the PS3 port/remake would have made it here.

The good thing is that it's not like the game involves a whole lot of Japanese knowledge. If you have played WO2 in the US, then you'll most likely know the important bits. Of course, I'm talking about Musou Orochi Z.

I swear i've got Warriors Orochi 2. Unless this is Orochi 3.

Warriors Orochi is known as Musou Orochi in Japan. However, Warriors Orochi 2 is known as Musou Orochi: Maou Sairin in Japan. This new game is Musou Orochi 2 in Japan, which might be confused since it's being translated as Warriors Orochi 2 right now. If it comes out here, it will most likely be called Warriors Orochi 3.

First Look: Musou Orochi 2

As detailed earlier, the Warriors Orochi sequel will feature over 120 characters. Included are characters from Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors, the two series for which Musou Orochi is considered a crossover. The original characters that appeared in past Musou Orochi games will also appear here. Tecmo Koei is also promising characters from outside the Musou/Warriors series. Details will be shared later.

The basic gameplay appears to remain the same -- you form a team of three generals whom you switch off between as you fight. The game will add new features, including three member team attacks and "switch combos" where you switch off attacks between your three members.

Via the game's "Musou no Senjo" (Musou Battlefield) feature, players will be able to create custom scenarios, and upload them for other players to play and comment on. Famitsu's print article says that the scenarios can be customized from existing scenarios. It's unclear if you can actually create new scenarios from scratch.

Development on Musou Orochi 2 is currently at 70% complete. The game is due for PS3 and Xbox 360 release in December, priced ¥7,800.
