Yo thats sick. If I ever run out of room I'll buy like a 200gb hard drive for my PS3! I doubt I'll fill up the 60 gigs i have now though.

As someone already mentioned on this thread, yes, you do need to reformat the hard drive that was on your old laptop before adding it to your PS3. My mind is a bit fuzzy at the moment, but how would you actually reformat a hard drive on a computer that doesn't work? Or could you put the hard drive into another computer and then reformat that?

And another thing, could Sony add a firmware to make the PS3 to use 300GB? Just a thought to even it out in the hundreds. Wouldn't hurt.

I thought you could format the drive using the PS3?

yup, you can re-format w/ the PS3

Take the hard drive out of the PS3. Its easy. Remove cover, take the one screw out. Slide the little lever and out pops the harddrive. Compare the two harddrives if the connectors look the same your good to go.. If the one out of your Harddrive has a large 80 pin connector your out of luck. If they match put the new harddrive in and power up the system. The PS3 will prompt you to format. Easy. If for some reason it doesnt work. Put the PS3 hardrive back in...

slightly off topic but is it a Toshiba laptop?

reason why i ask is because the Toshibas seem to have that as a very common problem. What actually happens is that where the charger plugs in, that port some how detaches from the motherboard and all that needs to be done is to resolder it. If your plan was to just junk the laptop, before you buy a new one, try opening it up and if you know some who can solder ask them to try soldering it back on it. Dont do it if you weren't planning to just junk it.

the biggest 2.5" size available is a 250G. You can't get a 2.5" 320 or 500G drive (yet). If you go larger than 250G it will not work as it msut be a 3.5" drive. Hence, the 250G max size warning...
