Nintendo is trying to catch up with Microsoft, Sony and Apple as far as tech specs are concerned with this Wii U. Wii U implements a touch screen as well as introducing HD in its new console. Pachter assumes the letter "U" refers to Upgrade.

Wii U's touch screen is playing catch up with the IPad/IPad 2. Apple has blind sided Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony with the popularity and innovation of the new touch screens.

Wii U is a new console because it will replace the Wii. Implementation of touch screen and HD graphics for the first time in a Nintendo console system. An improved online system for the Wii U is needed to counteract the growing popularity and success of its competitors: Microsoft, Sony and Apple.

why didn't nintendo keep making more wii line of games (wii play, wii sports, wii party etc.) is beyond me.
can't believe they sent the Wii out to die. Wii U is a bad idea imo. oh well at least we get a new SSB.
