Can Uncharted 3 score higher than Gears of War 3 on metacritic?

Yes 289 79.61%

No 46 12.67%

Tie 28 7.71%

Total:363

Of course it will. But will it push hardware sales?

The only way I see Uncharted 3 scoring lower is if, somehow, Uncharted 2 was so far beyond Uncharted 1 that it boosted Uncharted 2's scores insanely high (there was much to improve upon from Uncharted) and, with Uncharted 3, the improvement isn't as pronounced. Even then, a majority of reviewers will have to feel that Uncharted 3 is "more of the same."

But that's what I don't agree with. Some series get stale over time and seem like cash-ins. You can feel that the developers are just chasing a pay day. Games like Uncharted and Gears seem like labors of love. The developers go out of their way to improve the experience, push graphics, and satisfy their fanbase. Of course, the can't just change the core mechanics or the people that once loved the series will be alienated. So when reviewers say something like, "This is the action game equivalent of a yearly sports game update.", it infuriates me. What exactly where they expecting?

but uncharted is improving more then gears is. remember gears got marked down for it's cheesy and predictable story and uncharted will kill it in the story mode and with a massivly improved multiplayer and graphics unseen on this console generation i don't see how this game could score lower then a  94 it's just showing to many improvements

@Egg of Doom, I liked Uncharted 1 and 2 but please tell me what was so impressive about their story? Not the presentation, which we all know was top notch, the STORY. I could have written Uncharted 1 and 2's story in 8th grade. Cheesy and predictable?

Now, see what you've done!? You've got me in "Gears Defense Mode". Gears 3 (which I won't start playing until tonight) reportedly has a stellar story. Characters that we've gotten to know since 2006 are possibly going to die. Questions are supposed to be answered. One respectable site said that at the end of one chapter, they sat there in awe and slowly clapped. Short of killing Elena or Sully, I don't see Uncharted's campy story (judging from U1 and U2) causing that kind of emotion.

I've avoided Uncharted info like I avoided Gears info but I don't know if U3 will have improvements like 4-Player co-op or Beast Mode. We'll just have to see. Thing is, I was actually pro-Uncharted with my last post! Now I have to pick it apart. If you don't mind, would you list the improvements that U3 is going to have over U2?

@d21lewis

Most reviewers point out that the story of Gears 3 is poorly presented and the dialogue is meh. Uncharted story is meh too but how it is presented and dialogue make it something better than what is seen in Gears 3.

I think Uncharted is more polished in terms of story, not that it has a better story .

That's my opinion without played Gears 3 (I can change it after play the game).

I've only played the MP Beta so I can only go on that. There were a few new modes introduced to the multiplayers. 3-team deathmatch, free-for-all, hunter, & maybe a few others. The new maps also are better designed IMO. The gameplay has been tweaked. Guns feel more powerful. Aiming requires more skill. There are less incidents with people abusing the jumping/rolling system. It just all around feels more refined & smoother IMO.

I'm sure the Single player will also have it's fair share of improvements too. The fist-fighting in that cargo trailer looked superior than Uncharted. ND themselves, have said that the single-player will be exciting through the whole campaign, as opposed to just in a few chapters like Uncharted 2

Aside from a few new modes, UC3 doesn't introduce many new things. What it will do is refine the gameplay, make the MP more enjoyable, & remove any dull moments found in UC2. So basically, just improving & tweaking the core of Uncharted 2.

Well, Gears's story is pretty barebones compared to Uncharted. No, I'm not championing the game nor am I bashing it, but if you play Gears of War for the story, well...I don't know what to say really. Gears is all about the style and gameplay, not the story or characters. Uncharted's story is by no means stellar, but it's still a few steps ahead of most stories in games (but not like that's hard). It won't win any awards but it's worth watching.

I think Uncharted is a much better series for that reason if nothing else. it doesn't fail in any way, whereas Gears does. (not to say it matters, not all games need a deep story to be enjoyable.)

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

Definitely. It seems to have improved on the few and small flaws of 2, awkward cover system etc. and some new gameplay elements like fighting multiple enemies at once (melee) and destructible cover is cool. The actual plot might be average just like the other 2 but it's the story-telling, the acting and the production values that make it awesome. Graphically, I think it looks better then gears 3, both technically and artistically. I think the characters are more interesting.

The multi-player is a great improvement over uncharted 2 judging by the beta, might be the first non-fps this gen that I'll actually consistently play multi-player on :p But it doesn't really do anything unique online, like Gears does with Horde mode.

I can easily see uncharted 3 getting a metacritic average of around 94, could possibly beat uncharted 2 (96) and can easily beat gears of war 3s average of 91.

I thank GAME for allowing the release date of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception to release on the same day as it does in North America.

Uncharted 3 metacritics score is hovering around 93. Better than 91 for Gears 3.
