Correction: There hasn't been a good core Final Fantasy since XIII.

Actually, the last 'core' FF was VI. FFVII set up the formula for the rest of the series.

Lol, what?!  If I remember correctly 7, 8, and 9 all retained most of components that made a FF game a FF game.  It wasn't til 10 we started getting more linear paths and less emphasis on exploration and choice.

ff 7 is an awesome game just like it is. i played it on 2007 just 10 years after it got realeased and i loveed it. the story is awesome and i just find those blocky graphics great . this and vagrant story are my favourites jrpgs

Every gaming site should seriously consider making "FFVII remake WHAAAAA" tread a ban-able offense, shut the fuck up already, everyone before you has said everything on why or why not it should be remade, if you enjoy having the SAME conversations with the SAME answers then just talk to yourself in the private of your room about it.

The game already exists, its perfectly playable. If you can't handle the '97 graphics then you shouldn't play the game anyway.

Why don't they remake it like how RE 1 was remade for the Gamecube. There was still prerendered background but it still looked amazing. They could re-do the entire game with just the characters in polygons and just HD backgrounds. Maybe more angles and close ups but it could work and I wouldn't mind that at all.

Good idea, I cannot see that taking Square Enix 30-40 years to do and FF VIII as well as IX could also benefit from that type of remastering.

maybe square enix knows what it's doing? maybe? probably not though.

yeah man, totally! I mean, the FFVII fanbase has been COMPLETELY neglected since 1998...what's wrong with Square-Enix? I mean....wait, you're serious? the MOVIE, SEQUEL, and PREQUELS that have been released (making it the most popular game in the series with the most spinoffs) aren't enough for you people?

Wow...just wow.

Some of you are making this sound harder to do than it really is. There are large games released every year, both story and world-wise. They all had to start at some point. It wouldn't be any harder for SE to remake FF7 than it would to make one of those games, or an entire new FF game for that matter. In fact, it would be easier since half the work is already done. The characters, designs, and the story are all done.
