With Nintendo naming the next Mario kart game with a seven rather then using Mario kart 3ds makes me wonder why they are doing this. The only explanation is that Nintendo could be that they want to make a new 3DS with the 3D taken out or Nerf it.  Its not that insane to think that the 3DS will get a redesign with that new circle pad add on but, could it get a redesign without or Nerf ed 3D?

Here are some reasons why it can be a benefit

-Its not needed. It improves visuals but that isn't the main reason why we continue to play a game.

-It kills the battery life

-It makes the 3DS way more expensive

The only problem I see is the name. DS advance or Super DS will be good names but will the public know that the 3DS and Super DS is the same system? Do I sound like a crazy person?

-It kills the battery life....but you can turn it off.
-It makes the 3DS more expensive..but it only costs $169 as it is.
-It's not needed...but when its used well, it's a sight to behold (Starfox, Zelda).

Plus it's used in Nintendo Video, various 3D websites accessible via the browser, and hopefully 3D movie rentals/Netflix in the future.

People went apeshit when they saw the glasses free 3D in the palm of their hands at E3 last year. There's a push for 3D in smartphones, as we speak. 3D is here to stay. It's an asset for the 3DS, not a liability *. And even for the select few that have a problem with it, they can just turn it off (and what I think will become standard, MGS3 will actually turn the 3D off automatically whenever a player uses the gyroscope to control someting.). I joked about a 2D 3DS a while back but I don't think that, even in these crazy Nintendo times, it will become a reality.

*edit* Bolded/Underlined for Rol :P

That would be a terrible business decision, why remove the biggest feature from your product?
This is like the 9999th time of a 3D-less 3DS thread.

The people at E3 isn't a good indicator of the market for many good reasons.  The reasons you gave doesn't convince me that taking out 3D is taking sales away.  And with the bold in the last paragraph just tells me that Nintendo should have a 3DS with no 3D. Its not exactly for everyone is it?

Man people need to get over the fact that 3D isn't going anywhere. Its the 3DS's biggest selling feature, in competing with PSVita what would they do without it? Without 3D Vita has a huge edge all the new technology in the device not to mention the visual power while Super DS would be just that a super DS. If Consumers don't wanna buy 3DS because its just another DS what are they going to think when 3DS drops 3D and litterily becomes another DS.

I don't think Nintendo's stupid. Their won't be a new model in the immediate future and they will not drop 3D their biggest selling feature!

The 3DS's biggest feature is a liability instead of an asset, that's why.

But surely at this point it would be a worse decision to get rid of the feature. Releasing a new model with two sticks or without 3D and dividing the install base would be a disaster IMO, it would just make customers lose confidence in the product. I don't know if the 3D approach was the correct one, possibly not (though I don't think it's its biggest liability either). Either way I believe they should just stick to it. They need to launch appealing games and advertise well before holidays.

-It makes the 3DS more expensive..but it only costs $169 as it is. (Nintendo had to make a price cut and is now making a loss) like most consoles do at launch but it's selling very well, now.  The more devices sold, the better.  And we haven't gotten 100% confirmation on how big of a loss or if there really is a loss, have we?
-It's not needed...but when its used well, it's a sight to behold (Starfox, Zelda). (Like motion controls but unlike motion controls it doesn't sell as many systems.)   The feature is coveted and mostly well received but it wasn't enough to overcome the asking price of $250.  At $169, it's quite desirable.

Same will be 3D on the Non 3D DS)  No, being SD doesn't hold the Wii back but 3D is the feature that makes the 3DS unique.  With 3D smartphones hitting the market and 3D websites on the rise, the fact that the 3DS has 3D will be a boon--just like how having Blu Ray in the PS3 made it desireable for people who purchased HDTV's.  It has it's drawbacks but it has its benefits, too.  The good outweighs the bad.

As for the last paragraph, I agree.  E3's audience isn't a good indicator of anything.  Hell, the internet isn't a good indicator of anything.  We have a vocal minority that loves to stir shit up.  If the internet was always right, the Wii would be in last place, Kinect would have been a flop, Snakes on a Plane would be the highest grossing movie of all time, and John Cena wouldn't be wrestling.  Luckily, the real world =/= internet.

And with the bolded, what is for everyone?  Some people prefer the dpad to analog controls.  So, no more analogs?  Some people prefer 2D Mario to 3D Mario?  So, no more 3D Mario?  Some people prefer DVD to Blu Ray.  So, no more Blu Ray?  You see, that's the thing about options-- They're optional.  If you don't like, you don't have to use.  And some day, if you change your mind, the option is still there.

Anyway, I've got my opinion and you've got yours.  And the 3DS has 3D.  It always will.

Hmm sounding like a crazy person =p

Understood but that will make it less portable

Its more desirable now but is 3D boosting sales or is it the games? Oh I get it! It needs games that use the 3D feature well that is also a system seller

OK add is good but is it worth the price? That' the question here and is netflix boosting sales?

100% agrees here  on the bold

I just believe that their could be a option and it could help. Not just don't sell 3D at all! Nonsense This is why Nintendo should be making different models do satisfy different wants
