No, no, no, no, no... So wrong. I don't even know where to start. Let me put it this way: Syndicate, Magic Carpet, Dungeon Keeper 1+2 were by far the best that ever came out of a studio headed by Peter Molyneux. These 4 are among the best games I played in the 90s. Consider your Peter Murphy records revoked, as well, Mr. Severance.

It's sunday so I forgive you for forgetting about Populous & Theme Park...

those are just too mainstream for OKR

No, but I didn't mention Molyneux' most famous own creation Populous as I can't really judge it. I bought the DOS version in 1993 or 1994 and tried several times to get into it but I never really understood the controls or what exactly I was expected to do.

I didn't mention Theme Park because there was no reason to as this game was nothing special to me. SimCity 2000 and The Settlers - which were relesead in 1993, one year before TP - were easily the far better building/economic sim games imo. I bought TP shortly after release, it was a really good game and I played it for two weeks or so before I got bored and returned to SC2000 and Settlers which I both played for several years. Plus: in 1993 Caesar and Railroad Tycoon Deluxe were released and in 1994 Transport Tycoon. At that time the (city) building/economic sims genre was very popular worldwide (and in Germany it even was extremely popular and still is today, see the German franchises Anno and the still alive Settlers). The early to mid 90s were the heyday of the genre. Lots of games to chose from and Theme Park was just one of them. The Theme Park franchise was for Bullfrog Productions what The Legend of Kyrandia was for Westwood Studios: A really impresssive effort in a different genre but others like Maxis, Blue Byte, MicroProse (sim) or Sierra, LucasArts (p&c adv) had their core competencies in the respective genres and did a better job.

Unilke Theme Park, Syndicate in my opinion was a special, a one of a kind franchise back then and still is today. Same goes for Dungeon Keeper.

I know it was a joke (which you just made again in another thread), but 99,9% of threads on this site bore me to death. So when there's finally one thread a month that I feel is worth contibuting, I'll contribute. The explanation was for NiKKoM, by the way, not for you. You were just quoted because we can't let you get away with your opinion on Syndicate.

did you guys actually played the original ? i'm pretty sure non of you did, Syndicate wasn't that good of a game to begin with
i'm not interested anyways, i want Road Rash EA! , but XCom on the other hand.... -sigh- that was a real shame, since the original was great.

Uhm Syndicate is brilliant..  taxing your conquered territories so you can do research and development.. but you couldn't tax too much otherwise they would revolt.. always being outnumbered so tactics and r&d to have better weapons was very important.. it also was critically acclaimed by the press.. so what was not good about it?

And Syndicate Wars was even better, IMVHO. At first I was pissed they removed ammo and replaced them with regenerating energy, but playing it I found regeneration was slow enough and depletion using the most powerful weapons fast enough to make it as challenging as the previous ones, so its only possible big flaw compared to the previous games wasn't actually one, and top ranking cultists, with battalions of followers, were very tough enemies, tougher than agents of rival syndicates in the previous games.

Making Syndicate an FPS is an insult to the series' fans. We don't need that shit.
