Can Disney beat Universal's record 2015 domestic gross - $2.445 billion?

It will fall short of tha... 4 13.33%

Finding Dory, Doctor Stra... 20 66.67%

It's going to be very cl... 6 20.00%

Total:30

Pacific Rim will end up making a lot more money overseas then The Lone Ranger especially in Japan where mechas are hugely popular.  Also I think it will make more then $30 million dollars domestically its opening weekend and it will have better legs domestically then The Lone Ranger.  Pretty much all the major critic reviews are in and its a 70/100 on metascore and you can disregard the lowest score which is from Rex Reed who is know to slam certain movies for no valid reason.

WTF how did Grown Ups 2 get released in 216 more theaters then Pacific Rim that turd of a movie should have not gotten more then 2,800 screens.

I doubt it, the movie is going to have zero legs since it sucks worse then the first one.

With a $80 million dollar budget it has to make a lot more then that before it gets a sequel.  Also they already ran out of ideas in this one since the movie doesn't have a plot so a sequel is very unlikely.  You know that your movie sucks big time when even Rob Schneider doesn't want to appear in it and he was in the first one.

DM2 is projected to make $47m for the weekend.
Now for the new movies.
Pacific Rim has over 70% positive reviews on rotten tomatoes
Grown Ups 2 has 5% positive reviews - terrible!
But as of Friday evening, the two films are neck and neck. both movies are set to make $40 - $45m.
Seriously, I have no idea who is watching GU2.

GU2 made more money than Pacific Rim on Friday
$16m - $14m I can't explain that.

56% off for DM2 and whopping 68% off for the Lone Ranger from last week.

Congrats to Disney - their movies made over $1b for the year with only 4 new movies - 4 new big budget movies.

But when their movies cost soo much to make, it is hardly a celebration. College kids and those who grew up with Sandler are watching his new movie. He has a formula and he will never change it. It works for him. Even the bad movies do well on Video or eventually cable.

You think it's a good move for Disney to make less movies (only 10 this year) but make mostly big-budget films?

only 2 out of 10 are not big-budget movies this year it seems.  Delivery Man and The Fifth Estate.

But their 4 movies are averaging over $200m this year.  Kinda risky move I think.

It seems other studios are not as aggressive as Disney.

I am really excited about Pacific Rim, hoping to see it in next week with a group. I couldn't convince anyone to go to Star Trek so hopeful giant robots win them over to Sci Fi film.

Disney now owns Star Wars ( right?), Marvel, and Pixar. They have a lot of options these days. Should not be hard to make profit monthly. Just make small movies that are not part of any of those franchises. The lone Ranger was a huge risk.

What movie this weekend was DIsney? Grown ups 2?

I believe Disney owns all of Lucas Arts, so Star Wars, Indiana Jones...and Howard the Duck!

Tell them you are going to Pacific Rim, then walk into Star Trek instead. You do not want to wait for the DVD on a small screen.

I tried that and was out voted 5 to 1 so we went to see Monsters Univeristy.  I love my Star Trek, but everone else saw Pixar and decision was made.
