Because no one creates thread where they celebrate that Mario Bros is number one. In my opinion Pokemon Red/Blue is best selling game of all time because it wasn't packed in.

u can throw out the 'but but but it's a pack-in' excuse out all day long if u want, but it doesn't change the fact that

a) it has sold 2.5 million in japan out of 4.5 million userbase, so 55% penetration

b) wii sports is WHY the wii is selling so quickly...people are buying the wii FOR wii sports and BECAUSE of wii sports...it's not like forza or other pack-ins...it is the REASON for millions of those sales

Bets:Missed by 420k I bet leo-j vg$500 that wii will sell 31 million by 7/31/08.  Sorry, I don't think he has enough vg$ to make it with all of u that wish you could. Hit, with room to spare I bet kingofwale a 1-week ban that wii Americas ltd sales>360 Americas ltd sales as of the numbers for week ending 7/05/08 (using vgchartz homepage #s)

Predictions:

Wii will sell 18-20mil by 12/31/07  CHECKWii will sell 45mil+ WW by 12/31/08Wii will surpass PS2 sales WW by 11/17/11 (5yr anniversary)Wii Fit will hit 12mil sales in 2009MKWii+SSBB+Wii Fit+SMG > 50 mil sales by 2010 > gta4+mgs+gt5+ff13+haze+lbp

Last week Wii Sports overtook Nintendogs to become the 9th best selling game of all time. Over the coming weeks it has Super Mario Land & Super Mario Bros 3 in its sights and is also set to pass Super Mario World early in the spring.

I think this may be true, and who cares if it's a pack in, super mario world was a pack in also.

Now as a side note, why are we not considering VC sales of these games today? They are still selling now, more so on the VC, is there any way to count those sales? Heck I bought every VC mario game minus mario 64.

For me this is another sign of the record selling nature of the Wii/WiiSports. Argue all you want but this is an important sucess and a tip off to the industry. I think this will lead to more pack-ins at launch next generation. Hopefully they will get the hint that High-Quality/Innovative Exlusive titles are the ones that should be packed in. Not left overs.

That is something to get excited about.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would get excited over the sales of a bundled-game. It makes no sense at all.

Actually it does. Without the combination of the Wiimote+Wii Sports (because that game would not be what it is without the Wimote) the Wii would be performing similarly to the Gamecube or probably worse* (see NES->SNES->N64->Gamecube sales trend) so while not everybody buys the Wii because of Wii Sport the majority does:

In America: 8.5M Wii - 3.6M GC = 4.9M Wii sold due to Wii Sport

In Europe: 6.2M Wii - 1.8M GC = 4.4M Wii sold due to Wii Sport

In Japan: 2.48M Wii Sport sold

For a total of about 11.M people buying a Wii for Wii Sport.

Now it could be argued that some of those did not buy it for the traditional reasons people buy Nintendo consoles nor for Wii Sport which would make the number smaller (if taking the extreme of half of those  numbers outside of Japan it would give us 4.65M Wii Sport + 2.48 in Japan for 7.17M and growing) but it would still be a very significant number and growing at a rapid pace so completely dismissing Wii Sport because it is a pack-in is shortsighted at best.

*because those that bought a Wii but didn't buy a GC generally do it for its casual games and it is unlikely that they will like casual games and not like Wii Sport enough to not want it.

"I do not suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it"

@ Sri Lumpo, maybe they got it because they liked the casual nature of the system and the wii mote system in general, not just Wii sports. You cannot argue that all those people above bought the Wii solely because of Wii sports

But Wii sports proved to them, above any marketing stratergy, the casual nature of the wii.

It's pretty amazing that Wii Sports in Japan only has outsold the best selling PS3 game worldwide. And the gap is even bigger if you remove the bundled copies.

eventually Nintendo will probably switch out Wii Sports for Wii Sports 2 so you can watch that pass everything too.
