Yeah the PS3 went from $499 for the 160GB version to $349, so much much cheaper. The Australian dollar has been over parity with the US dollar for a while now, so I guess Sony used the opportunity to re-align the price better with the US. Still getting ripped off though, works out to be the equivalent of $US370, but that applies with everything in Australia, not just PS3's.

We get ripped off in Europe too, if it makes you feel better.

Everything is $1=€1, so we pay $US360 (€250).

It's funny when Americans complain that their games are $US60 when we pay €75, which is $US108.

Getting ripped off in South Africa too.

Isn't it ironic that the richer country has things for cheaper.

Yeah.

The way I see it, PAL countries are subsidizing these products so they're cheap in America.

You have to compensate for the piracy :)

Why do people always convert it to USD, Sony bases it on Yen becasue thats what their currentcy is.

25,000 yen = $325

They still pay more, even though it is cheaper to transport their products to their own country than to America.

that's mighty impressive, but the amount they reduced it by is pretty insane

Heh, I knew the effect of the price cut would be gargantuan in Aus/NZ.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Really cheap in Australia now, while the world got a $50 drop, the PS3 basically dropped from $500 to $300 - $350 and it's been getting a pretty decent push from all the large electronic retailers. I've noticed that the PS3 has become the go to console over the last couple of years in Australia and now that it's finally matching the 360 Slim Arcade, it may just take a huge lead.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

So PS3 above 200,000 this week.

Although I'm not too sure that VGC really has first hand information for those sales, I heard someone say that they apply some algorith to UK sales to extrapolste to EMEAA, and that's why imprecisions happen the most here.

The list of retailers that VGChartz tracks is a closely guarded secret - anyone who claims they know for sure what the list is is lying. However, if you look at data for individual games when they are launched in Australia in a different week to when they are launched in Europe. you can see that Australian data is taken into account.

Did SON¥ introduce new bundles along with the price cut Down Under?

Wow O_O...thats a huge price drop!
