Forums - Microsoft - 343 sometimes had to do more than just tweak Halo: Anniversary’s visuals

VG247

343 Industries’s Frank O’Connor has said the team did a bit of tweaking tot he visuals in Halo: Anniversary, and not just when it came to enhancements.

Speaking with Gamasutra, O’Connor said in some areas of the game, previous visual effects were also removed.

“For example, 343 Guilty Spark had a lot of fog, and people associate that fog with broodiness, mood, terror as the Flood came out,” he said. “But one of the realities is that yes, the fog was there for all those reasons, but it was also in there as a performance saver, as fog used to be. [So we found] other things we could do to give it mood and give it a somberness.

“We also said at some point, ‘If we’re doing something with the graphics, we should really do something with it, not just ape exactly what was there. The Library is another good example.

“It had this big pillar in the center which was put in, again, to occlude objects so you don’t have to draw every enemy in the game. We took this opportunity to re-light the level, do stuff with the textures, and some of the effects to make it much more navigable.”

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is out November 15 and will contain support for 3D tvs.

I like the sound of this. I really can't wait to play through Halo CE again in co-op.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Im really curious to see how this turns out. It is an older game so it may have the musscle to do decent resolution 3D.

Its sad that they had to go with HDMI 1.4 3D support though... Should have just left it side to side 3D like all other 360 3D games thus far. Now I have to buy a 300 dollar converter to play it on my 3d projector.

This game is going to look beautiful!

What the heck was everyone's problem with the Library? I loved every minute of the original game, and had no idea that level was so reviled until I started reading online forums.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

I am really interested to see if how much more interesting they made the library.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I am not sure if other feel the same way as me, its not that the level was bad it was just that the level was not as fun as the others, it did not have the magic as other levels did.  Plus it had endless respwans of enemies and they would spwan behind you, infront of you, and at times right beside you. I played the mission on legendary and when you have what feels like endless respawns of enemies and checkpoints that are far apart the level is just not enjoyable as the others.

The flood also dont always stay dead.

Well it was the most boring repeated level in the game...plus the flood *shudders*
