Forums - Sony - PS3 broke a while back... Buying a new one soon. Need advice. Help me!

Right.

A few Months back my launch 60GB PS3 died on me while I was perving over playing Tomb Raider. I decided to not bohter getting it fixed, due to it being a really old model and with my interest in a Slim PS3 being pretty high. I waited for a while for the pricecut, and it came.

Now. Here's the thing. I'm gonna get a new PS3. 100% happening. That's not what I need advice on though. What I DO need advice on, is the data on my current PS3.

Is there any possible way for me to get the following onto my new PS3, without getting my launch system fixed?

  • Save games
  • PSN ID
  • PSN Downloads

I'm not big on how PS3 HW works, so any of those 3 might be simple and I'm being stupid... But help would be appreciated. I need a new PS3 before Dark Souls, Batman and Uncharted release

If you don't help, cute puppy dies.

Aww look at the cute puppy.

Well, first thing you do is go to playstion.com, log into playstation network. After you sign in, there should be a button that says 'settings'. From there, you click system sharing. A new pop up should appear. This is where you enter the code on the...... Wait.... A puppy dies if I don't help!?

Hmmm.....

I'm pretty sure if you put an Ethernet cable in your current ps3 and into a new ps3 you can transfer saves, while they're on obviously lol

Just use the same e-mail and password to put your PSN ID on the new PS3, any downloads you made will be on the downloads list of the PS Store to re-download.

As for save games, if you did not back them up then try this on the old machine:

I am not joking, my PS3 broke last month, I bought a slim just last week with the price cut and did this on my old system, I turns on long enough for me to back-up the saves and transfer them to the new system.

Thanks. Will 100% give this a go when I get chance. I just hope it stays alive long enough for me to get my data!

damn your ps3less for that long

your id should still be there with all your trophies since your last sync just create account and use existing account option

the saves is a problem if you cant get ur old one to work it took me about 20 mins to do the transfer and that was with everything erased except my game saves, so if you do get it running delete everything but your game saves prior to the transfer so it wont take longer cause you wont know how long the ylod system will have

the downloads are with your id go to account management there should be a option called download history or something like that, theres a full list of everything you ever dled

                                                                      Play Me

Remember to deactivate your older PS3 if you get it started. There's a limitation of 5 activations.

If you're desperate enough, just do what I had to do: Pay a technician to repair the console; it voids the warranty, but at least you get your saves and other data saved on the console.
