Forums - Microsoft - MS: No price cut coming, blockbusters and bundles will take Xbox 360 to No.1

Those 2 games, Forza 4 and Gear 3 are going to sell like hot cakes. I'm not really into the Gears series, but I'm really interested in Forza 4. I can't wait to see how it fares against GT5.

As for whether or not they have a shot at #1... I couldn't care less who gets to that position.  Gives me games that appeal to me, and stop with the position crap already!

well certainly one of those games will Sell a ton

This can easily be countered, all Nintendo and Sony have to do is bundle games themselves, just because they cut hardware prices don't mean that bundling is out of the question. The PS3 had a great bundle right after the price cut with Infamous 2.
MS you guys are true geniuses.

Sony is gonna do bundles like they have in past years probably right before Black Friday roles around in the US

HIGHLY doubt they'll be #1 in Europe.
How much of a lead does the PS3 have over the 360 this year in Europe? It a 1-million lead.......
The only way it can possible beat it the PS3 is with a price cut which is definitely happening sometime this year.

That's Q1, tallies up to 280 - 300k, so for Europe I doubt it's a million.

Does the chart total all European sales, or just the biggest markets?

Forza 4 has had a massive increase in attention in EU largely due to Top Gear being big in Germany, France, Spain and Of course the UK. Also the fact that GT5 disappointed across EU reviewers and forums. So Forza 4 does have a chance to sell some consoles this time.

This is funny. selnor, read the reviews please. Don't just look at the scores. Actually read them.

And then, after you've done it... Block everything you read from your mind and look at Gran Turismo 5's "EMEAA" sales. It's sold, according to VGChartz, over 4 Million units in less than a Year. It's sold only 100,000 units less than EVERY SINGLE Forza game combined in EMEAA.

Outside of America, despite review scores or forum banter, Forza isn't in the same league as Gran Turismo. I wonder how many copies of Forza Microsoft will bundle this Year...

I don't know what MS have up their sleeve, but they seem confident to take the No.1 spot. IMO that's going to be hard without a cut but we'll see what they have prepared.

Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if a price cut was coming after all, that would help them a lot towards that goal.

It is called "corp speak".  Project a lot of confidence, and hope it impacts.  If you are wrong, you fall behind anyway.  Puffery to the nth degree.  Look at it this way, what DOES anyone expect them to say in response to the price cut of the PS3?  "Up the sleeves" could end up being a new console announced next year, and this year is "hold the fort".

Interesting that 360 is that close to PS3 in EU over Q1 2011. 300k isnt alot. Considering PS3 is sold in more territoriess as well.

M$ havent had a price cut for ages now. he next cut should be phenominal. Should do good numbers as it will really hit mass market price. They have done well to not price cut react for the last 2 years. It's something we all should remeber when talking of sales for 360 over the last 2 years. PS3 has had 3 price cuts since the last 360 one. I say the 360 has done a great job selling without those price cuts.

However it did have the 360s release, which sparked sales interest last christmas.

I say 36

Well that's an average weekly difference of 21K, which is a substantial difference IMO.

What we all should also remember is that PS3 price cuts have, until now, brought the price down towards the 360's Elite / 250Gb sku price. Since 2009 160Gb PS3 and Elite / 250Gb sku 360 have been competing on an even price footing ( I assume across Europe they are equal price, though I'll note that in some EMEAA countries outside Europe 250Gb 360 is still cheaper than 160Gb PS3).  So, sure PS3 has cut price more often than 360, but considering the actual price differentials over the cource of the gen, to just talk about numbers of price cuts for each console is not the full story.

I would be very surprised if 360 was the number 1 selling console in Europe this holidays. Even with a price cut (unless they cut the 250Gb 360 by 100 Euro).

The Gears franchise is big in EMEAA but not huge. And being the 3rd in the series oin 360 I'm thinking it won't drive sales too much. There will be a launch week bump but that's about it.

Forza franchise is strong for 360, but I get the feeling that the Sim racer fans have made their choices. That is the gamers who's favourite genre is sim racing. Again 3rd game of the series this gen would normally mean a launch week sales bump but not a lot of HW effect after that.

Fifa franchise has always done better on PS3 even when 360 had a LTD lead over PS3, so even with promotional exclusivity deals FIFA is not going to effect HW sales differentials. Both systems will get a bump at launch and even if 360 gets a bigger bump it won;t be that much bigger.

CoD is bigger on PS3 than 360 now, and there's no reason to think MW3 will be different. Again with exclusive 360 tie ins the effect that has on HW sales differentials won't be large.

Kinect has had tepid 2011 sales in Europe compared to Americas. Can MS do something to massively boost Kinect's performance in Europe? Sure they can, Kinect is a great piece of kit and there are good games for it. The difference between OK sales and great sales for a great piece of hardware is marketing. But I think Kinect's appeal is to about 20%-25% of the 360 buying market at most (in Americas Kinect weekly sales are at about 27% of 360 weekly sales and that's to new 360 buyers and existing 360 owners). At present in Europe Kinect is perhaps selling to 12% of new 360 buyers. I think a very good holiday performance for Kinect in Europe would be rising to 25% of 360 sales, whereas a very good Kinect performance for the holidays in Americas would be rising to 50% of 360 sales. The corresponding HW boost from Kinect rising up to 25% of new console buyers I think would put 360 sales close to PS3 for the holidays, but I don't think it would put 360 sales ahead.

The combined effects of all the 360 exclusive games (multiplats will have no material effect) can make this holiday close between 360 and PS3 thie year, but wihtout a formal 360 price cut it won't put 360 ahead.

And despite Wii's rapidly slowing sales this year I think Wii can still be numer 1 for the holidays in Europe.

Indeed, they won't shut up about it, just want them to hurry up and show their hand. Where does it say in the article no price cut btw?

Europe needs a price cut before they can even think about taking 1st there.

Microsoft statements are about the US never about the world in general.

Wrong, very wrong, Since e3 they've only been about WW, and there have been about 6 interviews this week talking aobut being #1 in Europe.

They will not become no.1 in Europe only with their bundles and blockbuster games.. let alone when PS3 got a price cut.

The 250GB 360 is already cheaper than that cheapest PS3 (160GB).  They need exclusive games that aren't the third or forth outing of the series on the 360.  If people like Gears, Halo and Forza they have had several reasons of each to buy a 360 already.

People are willing to pay more for a PS3 compared to  a Xbox 360, PS3 has never been priced lower then 360 and it has sold more since it's release then the Xbox 360 did in that same period. The PS3 outsold the Xbox consistently in my country where the PS3 was 300 euros and the Xbox 360 only 150 euros (50% less, lowest GB model)
