Let me say that I love ME2 and I have not played the first one as I only own a PS3 and my PC can't play it. Now, I only finished it halfway into the story till I had to return it back in one week to game stop. Because there is no way I am paying that much for a game that costs only $20 on the Xbox. Make it the same price and I will happily pay that for the PS3 version.

I think the only reason it's expensive is because of the add-on content. It's supposed to expire in Jan 2012, so maybe they'll drop it to $20 or something.

I got it a couple weeks ago (then downloaded the DLC it didn't come with) one of my favorite games of all time.
Already had the 360 version though.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

I'll pick it up if I see it in a bargain bin somewhere. I bought the 360 version before giving away my 360, but never played much at all. The shooting mechanic wasn't very exciting.

Toooooo many gaaaameeeezzzz.

what about Fallout 3?? That game is in the same vein as ME2, i think, and it did killer numbers, Especially considering the PS3 version was crap when it debuted. I think it just comes down to being a late port. You could probably count on 2 hands how much ports of games outsell their original game. RE4(PS2 version), Okami, Mario64DS, Kirby Super Star Ultra, thats all i can think of

Yeah maybe, I hope ME3 can pave way for the franchise on the PS3 (especially in Europe). But then again, in the case of Bioshock, Bioschock 2 didn't do much better than the original on the PS3 (which was a year old port).

Because I haven't played the first.

contrary to what most PS3 owners want you to believe we dont want it. PS3 users are not shooter fans evident by sales of SONY's 1st party offering.

Mass Effect 2 is more of an RPG than a shooter. It has more character development and options than the majority of RPGs this gen. Also your statement makes no sense because according to 3rd party "offerings", PS3 users are shooter fanatics.

I would disagree. I'm a huge Mass Effect fan and almost all RPG elemenebts in ME2 are gone. Mass Effect 2 is a very story focused shooter, which allows you to make story altering decisions, but it's still much more of a shooter then ME1 was. I mean except for altering your stats a bit, ME2 really is a shooter, a damn good one.

I can't answer the OP because I own a 360 as well, and I'm getting ME3 day 1, but I have a friend who has a PS3/Wii and he just isn't excited for it. The fact is, it's a port, and PS3 owners (not to insult) are too arrogent to realize this is probably the best game ever made this gen. IGN for instance made an article explaining why ME2> Uncharted 2 and why they gave it a higher rating. It's not uniformly better, but ME2 is damn well one of the best games this gen. It's sad that people aren't playing it, mainly because it's a port (or remake cause of the new engine).

Because I have played the first.

(only for about 30 minutes, but I didn't really like it)

out of budget for this american and its not a must have for me. loved the demo but theres a 10m install base on the 360 where the interest is higher. if the install base was equal to that of the 360 i think ME would still favor 360 but likely by half.

i want to get as many games on my PS3 but i don't even have 90% of PS3 games/exclusives which comes first in my purchase line up let alone multi-platform games.

long story short i will get it just not before better games i haven't got or even games that come out next yr like Bioshock Infinite, and The Last Guardian.

early 2013 is when i'd likely get ME2 and early 2014 is when i'd likely get ME3, which is also the yr i'd get Twisted Metal.

This comment only shows that some PS3 owners are  misguided about this game then. Possibly the best new franchise this gen. great RPG.

Well the core gameplay is standard over the shoulder 3rd party shooter. And I know of what I speak because I've platinumed ME2. The peripheral game play is RPG, and it's a good balance of RPG and TPS, but if you are not a fan of TPS gameplay then ME2 is not really a game for you. I do like TPS but I prefer the more free form camera style of Uncharted than the tight over the shoulder of ME (and as I understand it Gears of War). Personally I prefer Dragon Age: Origins over ME2, because I prefer the DA:O gameplay style and it's got better RPG elements.

I just think PS3 owners are a fairly small WRPG market. I prefer my WRPGs on PC, but I don't have a PC capable of playing Mass Effect or DA:O so I got the PS3 versions. Once I get a better PC then I'll be getting my WPRG fix on PC. I'll be getting ME3 on PS3 because I simply refuse to own 2 versions of the same game, so given I already have ME2 for PS3 then I'm committed to ME3 on PS3. I'll probably swtich to PC for the Dragon Age franchise, though DA2 seems to be somewhat consolified in its gameplay so perhaps DA3 will be when I switch to PC.

ME is certainly one of the top new franchises this gen. But IMO not the top.
