Forums - Gaming - Breaking news: Steve Jobs no longer CEO of Apple

http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/24/steve-jobs-resigns-as-ceo-of-apple/

"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve"

He's still at Apple as Chairman of the Board. I doubt this will have a major impact on Apple.

Few companies are linked as closely with their CEO as Apple. I may not be a fan of Apple, but I hope Steve's health improves. The man is a legend.

Well I certainly hope he doesn't die, but hopefully this should dent Apple a bit, but they have been preparing for this by sharing out keynotes to some degree, but he is still Mr Apple, I can't see this not doing anything at all...

Maybe we'll get some products that aren't overpriced just because Apple makes them. Heh, who am I kidding?

He is nowhere near as important as the Market thinks he is.

Occupation Senior Vice President of Industrial Design, Apple Inc.
Salary GBP £1,000,000+[1]
Jonathan "Jony" Ive, CBE (born February 1967) is a British designer and the Senior Vice President of Industrial Design at Apple Inc. He is the principal designer of the iMac, titanium and aluminum PowerBook G4, G4 Cube, MacBook, unibody MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPod, iPhone, and iPad.

Now if he he decided he had enough..... That would be another matter.

I'm not a big fan of his, but the man is a legend for how he led the company and I wish him well. I know genius chief engineers like Ive and Wozniak are the true creators of Apple most successful products, and actually I prefer Wozniak's "vision" to Jobs' one, but I can't deny Jobs is a genius of its own kind for what regards marketing and brand and products image.

I strongly dislike Apple. But I can't help but be concerned for Job's.

I mean with Jack Layton just dying of cancer it makes me wonder if another great man will too.

If Steve were to die it would be a huge loss for society. He would be dearly missed.

However I am happy that with his departure Apple will be effected and possibly take a hit. I would like to see their arrogance in the industry ended. See them taken down a notch and start putting cunsumers above profits. Its like when Nintendo made N64 and was completely arrogant or Sony launching PS3.

Apple needs to be put in its place and taught not everybody bows down to you. Steve Jobs is just to brilliant and smart and can keep Apple on top, but with him gone maybe they will loose some steam and be brought down to their competitors levels.

Right now its hard for anyone to compete with Apple and thats not good. Competition is what grows industries and pushes advancements etc...etc... without competitors products consumers are left with no choice but to purchase from one company. Android is putting up a hell of a fight and so is Microsoft. But Apple is just to strong. But if the playing field was evenned out a bit I think it would benefit not only consumers but Apple itself, maybe not financially but it would help build the company into something a bit more respectable!
