Forums - Sony - Sony has 'no desire' to release a new home console

A successor to the PlayStation 3 won’t be released until developers are unable to improve on games for current-generation hardware, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has revealed.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Yoshida stated his belief that there is no need to make the transition to next-generation hardware providing companies are still able to create new and interesting experiences for consumers.

"Looking at the platform cycle, when the platform becomes something game developers are not able to improve their creations with, that's the time we have to really seriously consider shifting to the next generation," he commented.

"As far as we are concerned, we have no desire now to do that [release a new home console]," Yoshida explained.

I still expect we will see one about 12 months after the nextbox, theres no way Sony are going to just sit back and watch new consoles be released by the competition.

I predict 2013 for the new PS4, and the 720. They will be released in the same year.

i say 2014 for both

PS4 is in production as we speak.

This can only mean PS4 is not set to release this month. Next month is something else though.

They are either arrogant or lying. The PS3 can very well be improved upon. We have heard it many times the thing is not easy to develop for. They could at least provide similar power with a friendlier API to increase developer interest and foster multi-platform preference to their platform. That's just one thing.

How is it arrogance? It's a question of why buy milk when your cow is capable of giving you what you need?

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

I doubt Sony would really try to blow their feet off like that. Look at what the year head start did for the 360 this gen. I don't think they wanna chance history repeating itself or even something worse.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

As I've been saying for years now.

All three new systems will be out by xmas 2013.

Next E3 will confirm this if we don't already have confirmation by then.

They said the same thing about the "PSP 2" a few months before the Vita was announced.

Of course it's in the design phase by now.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

I say 2014 for both too, but i still think that Sony will keep supporting the PS3 more time than MS will keep supporting the 360.
