Forums - Gaming - Microsoft: “Cross-platform experience is better on Xbox”

Well I'm not 'acting as if it's so weird' or anything, I just figured the attach rate would be higher. with PSN I kind of understand since sony doesn't really push the PSN or online play like Microsoft does. XBL is like, the primary selling point to Xbox.

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

Microsoft is always going to have the better service as it is more popular, at the end of the day thats why you play online

Simply saying one service is more popular is sort of a debatable topic.

While certain games (such as CoD) have more people on at a time on Xbox Live versus PSN, the total number of PSN accounts blows Xbox Live away.

There are 77 million PSN accounts, and only 35 million Xbox Live (Gold and Silver) accounts.

Unfortunately, there isn't really enough data to conclusively determine whether one system's online service is more popular (for all we know, the total number of psn users playing online at any given time might be 50% higher than 360 users online across all games)

Yea cause all 77 million of those accounts are active and there all made by 77 million different people. Those 35 million accounts are active memebers on live. I highly doubt there is 35 million active players online.

Woah, just one second.  How do you know with 100% certainty that those 35 million accounts are active.  You're telling me that nobody out there has multiple Silver accounts, or a Silver and a Gold account?  I know it sounds stupid, but I betcha it exists.  Hell, I'd betcha there are even people out there that have 2 gold accounts.  Why?  I have absolutely no clue, but I'd say the odds are pretty good.

i remeber reading it somewhere in on those articles that stated that live had 35 million subscribers, that the 35 million people were active memebers. If i find the article i will send you the link.

having multis on your console be superior will really get you far since most great games are multi now, gta rdr cod ect.

its really sad to see the console that was released later (PS3) not have the superior multis, this has always been a issue with PS consoles and continues again this gen. for costumers paying high amounts of $$$ for a PS3 compared to other consoles and then having to deal with inferior products its not good for sony b/c those costumers will feel more confident going with the xbox brand when buying time comes next gen

You know, your fanboyism gets more and more annoying every single day.

I would never, ever purchase the $199 Xbox.  That being said, the PS3 is currently $249 and the 360 is $299.  On top of that, you will be paying $50 per year for Xbox Live.  if you have the console for 5 years, you are paying $549 for the Xbox 360, and still just $249 for the PS3.

Dam, it really is such a hard choice.  Do I want to spend $249, or spend $549 so I can get a stupid CoD map pack 1 month earlier and have cross game chat.

was talking bout 360s multis are superior in graphical and performance area... texture resolutions, anti aliasing, frame rate, load times, effects missing on ps3s in some cases the 360s are superior by quite some margin, these things can be enjoyed w/o even having live

at the beginning of the gen the ps3 was $500 and $600 and remained $300-400 for some time while the 360 released at $280 and could be bought for $200 or $300 with HDD only 3 yrs after release.  for something that was being touted as most powerful console of the gen,  it includes bluray, and whoa it has 7 cpus, none of that means a damn if 90% of the games being released are inferior to the 360

i agree that MS is ripping people off with all the extra crap like control chargers, HDD price, and live but if the multi platform games that i enjoy offer me a better gaming experience then i dont mind paying extra since alot of games now are going multi and i believe good exclusives will only become more scarce next gen

i fought this was going to be about cross platform in that PC-360. Tho PC-360 would fail out of the gate because of games for windows live.

Anyways i see no difference between steam and xbox live other than steam is free. I lol every day at idiotic fanboys defend live cost, they are like sheep. A bit off topic but overall this is just the same old same old out of MS, next week we will hear that a sony top guy is saying that the ps3 is the most powerful system blah blah.

People like you are just pathetic, insulting others because they see the value in something that you don't. I am a pc gamer and I used steam, but I also use to use Live. From my experience what i can tell you is that live has much more content and games than steam. Yes they basically do the same thing which is playing games online, but I found Live to be much more enjoyable with social aspect built into the service. I can understand if you like being a loner online, playing in complete silence cause the sound caused by drop of a pin will make you go complete apeshit and distract you from the game, but believe it or not there are a lot of people you like to socialize in online gaming with their friends or trash talking random kids online.

Remember dude each to his own, everyone has their opinion including you, so learn how to respect it.

that would be a valid point if voice chat wasn't supported on psn... but it is... just no cgc

furthermore when did playing games become socialising? when someone goes to a party or the beach or movies etc thats socialising i'd hardly call sitting around at home playing games scialising but thats my opinion

Communicating with people on Xbox Live is superior to psn in ever single way no questions asked.

And to answer your question playing games online became social when you were first able to connect it to the internet. You don't need to physical meet people to socialize(which i pefer to do anyways). If things like facebook and twitter are considered social apps, why cant Live?

Dont want to get too off-topic with this but i should point out that when people talk about the ps3 crossplatform means CROSS-PLATFORM as in pc and ps3 connectivity (i.e. Dust 514) which i think is a big advantage for the ps3. I have not played xbox and you may be right about its features being better than steam and psn but the fact that psn is free is what i like about it (it played a big factor in why i bought the platform). From what i have heard only 12 million of the 35 million xbox live users have the gold subscription meaning that you, a proponent of the pay system, are actually a minority on your own platform so clearly while it may be very good in your opinion, clearly the majority of xbox owners dont feel the same way. I would be interested in a survey of xbox/psn/steam users which surveyed how satisfied they were with their online services - i suspect xbox live would be last simply on price.

agaain to someway answer your final query. Although the current Gold subscribers is 12.5 million. Live has more regular individual users playing online than any other online service of it's kind. Racking up over triple the hours of PSN throughout 2010 on the last count.

Interesting to say the least. Although there are free services, they dont get played online as much as the paid service.

M$ only have ever released individual accounts, and only release figures of active accounts. We have known this for many years.

Im confused, I thought cross-platform was the ability to play against/with someone on another platform. Like Portal 2 on PC/PS3. Since when has the 360 had any of that?

Shadowrun that released in 06(?) had cross-platform play.

They both mention the fact that they are active accounts.

I disagree because free >>>>>> paying.

But to those that love XBL, you better be loving it wayyyyyyy more than PSN since your paying for it or else MS is doing a horrible job and wouldnt be worth it if its just slightly better.

All i have to say is its good to own both consoles.

Yea, but people's excuse is always that it either is worth it because the service is so much better, or $40 per year is hardly any money in the first place.

What they fail to recognize is that $40 per year for 5 years will put a HUGE dent in the price of the next console when it comes out, or help purchase some additional games.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
