It doesn't change the fact this year Sony 1st party is not doing very well at all. Socom, LBP2, and now Infamous have all posted low numbers. The game is only 10 weeks old and only did 15k WW. That is poor. KZ3 even has only been a moderate success. Sony quite simply has too many 1st party games releasing and its splitting their demographic of hardcore supporters. Its hard to generate a ton of hype around them because theres so many different ones. Your about to see the same thing with Resistance. |
Most of the games released this year have reasons for posting 'disappointing numbers'
SOCOM 4: It was a bad game
inFamous: It was seen as a stepdown by critics. Some felt it was better, but the majority thought it was an inferior product. Even some users on here thought it was worse than the first one with some labeling it too much like a movie instead of a comic book. Even with all that, this may be tracking above inFamous 1 with DD.
Killzone 3: I and nearly most other hardcore KZ2 felt this game was disappointing. The game managed to attact a lot of new customers, but a lot of the core skipped on the game, which is understandable. If KZ3 had satisfied the core, then it would have a lot more sales. Remember the PSN outage? KZ3's legs plummeted during then and they never recovered. If PSN never went down, KZ3 total sales would be higher, not much, maybe 100k at the most. Even with all that, the game is practically on par with KZ2 in terms of sales. It will pass KZ2 in a few weeks.
LBP2: I'll give you this one. The game won't reach LB1 sales. I can blame this on LBP1's heavy bundling and holiday release. A few weeks ago, LBP1 actually outsold LBP2. That was pretty weird. I guess people don't see LBP2 as being a big enough improvement over the first. I don't know. If it has legs & bundles like LBP1, then it should reach 3 - 3.5m.
Resistance 3: I don't know what's going to happen with this one.
