Forums - Sales - Analyst - PS3 Has Been 'Struggling' Against Xbox 360, Microsoft Not Likely to React to Price Drop

Microsoft destroys Sony in NA, but it's a total 180 in Europe and Japan

@Baalzamon

I'll sig bet you right now that 360 wins NA this holiday. I think you are greatly underestimating the brand power of Xbox in America. It is MUCH stronger than Playstation now and has been all generation.

Yea but the sales are on the front page. So it is the point that they are doing well in north america. With out japan, MS would be ahead. So it's a slim margin that ps3 has been getting but Most likely ps3 sales will rise and MS will follow suit.  However they will hold out for extra cash until End sept or so.

It goes without saying that he was talking about the world.

It shows though how video game analysts are far to close minded -- sure the 360 is outselling the PS3 in North America, but it is behind in Europe and in many regions like Japan it is barly competing now.

Personally i wouldn't be surprised to see Microsoft drop the price of Kinect and the price of the Kinect bundles by $50 -- that would drive sales up worldwide and help Microsoft target the casual market.

no it shows how you are trying to nitpick everything. Sony is struggling in North America, and the analyst pointed out that out and that sony is cutting its price to try to stay competitive in North America. Why is there anything wrong with him mentioning that. Thats why he specifically said North America is where the ps3 needs a boost.

Does Europe also get a price cut for the PS3?

Lol you all act like MS is just going to twiddle there thumbs and let Sony dominate Europe. Like the analyst said MS will take a wait and see approach to Sony's price drop. I would be surprised if withing the next few weeks if MS drops the price. I am betting they drop to 199 for the 250 gb console and 149 for the 4 GB console i mean just matching there price drop wouldn't exactly do a lot for MS. But having a larger drop would do wonders for them heading into the holiday season. Then drop the price of kinect to $79-$99 I mean we all know that kinect doesn't cost nearly 150 per unit to produce probably around 40 to 50. Then the 360 itself i would be surprised if it costs more than 150 to make an Xbox 360 today. Hey MS has been saying they aim to be number 1 WW so this strategy would certainly make that goal more than achievable.

I've said it before and I will say it again: anyone expecting huge things from a 360 price cut are going to be disappointed. 360 is at a similar point now in America that DS was last fall when it got its price cut (accounting for the fact that handhelds are more likely to have multiple units in a single household). With saturation about to set in in Americas I would only expect a 360 price cut to have about the same impact that the Wii price cut has had. Sales next year are actually going to start rapidly declining in that region. In fact it wouldn't totally shock me to see PS3 outsell 360 in Americas next year.

2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

True MSFT does dominate but there is no Japan or EMEAA situation here. They exist. They are real. It just irritates me that analysts in America always seem to believe that America = The World and when they finally acknowledge that there are other countries. They say only slightly. Unless "only slightly" means kicking there ass then sure then I agree.

i'm sure M$ will drop X360 price before holiday season to defeat PS3 worldwide sales during that time, 100% sure...

PS3 'struggling'?? xDD

yes if talking about US region, but when it comes to worldwide sales, i feel more like X360 is struggling against PS3

I still think its all about market share, market share, market share. Even if the 360 is going to stay even with PS3 or maybe slightly better sales in North America it still wants to keep dominating in that region. Also they have been losing ground in Europe, Middle East, and Asia areas according to sales figures. Remember they also claimed they will be #1 world wide. That claim will not hold up if they do not cut their prices. I have been saying from the beginning that I think MS has been planning all along this year to cut the prices in the Fall especially after their competitors cut their price to deflate any gains. i think MS wants to have as much market share as possible so I am very confident they will likely issue a price cut sometime in early Fall.

Sure, but only if the Xbox 360 doesn't get a price cut.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.
