Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony price cuts - PS3 $249, PSP €99 (Europe)

I'm just realizing they also cut the price in Japan (I originally didn't ear that - only EU/US). Sales may be about to really explode everywhere but NA.

yoda is that you lol?

i don't know. i think this pricepoint is just right for PS3 in the Americas. sure PS3 isn't the Wii in terms of appeal in the U.S., but maybe just maybe PS3 can get some love leading up to another price drop in 2013 to $199.99 or $179 just befor 2014 hits with the arrival of PS4.

thoughts?

In Amazon PS3 Slim 160GB is now 3rd place... Can it get to first?

Sony confirmed that they are making a profit at 250.

"It is still profitable," he said. "We're not going into the red."

Not that suprising really. I always find it hilarious when these price cut threads start though, people immediately say "Microsoft/Sony (delete as applicable) will cut in a few weeks!". I don't think this has ever happened, lol. As always, the rival console manufacturer will spend a long time analysing the situation and if they do cut, it will have been planned for a long time.

Indeed, it's a rampant assumption that hardly (if ever) comes to fruition. Microsoft won't cut before the Gears & Star Wars consoles are out anyway (unless they slash $50-$100 off the asking prices of these Limited Edition bundles, which I don't see happening). Therefore, a 2012 cut of some sort is likely, with the PS3 winning the holidays WW, but maybe just matching or trailing the 360 in NA.

Sounds fairly logical to me. The 360 is fairly cheap already and selling well in NA. If MS do cut soon then I suspect it'd only be in EU or the phasing in of a better SKU for the same price.

Like I said in the other thread, 360's grip on North America is very tenuous. It's probably closing in on what DS's household installbase was last year and will be at the same point that the Wii was some time early next year.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

They finally cut the PS3 to $350 in Australia from $500

Woo only a $100+ premium now :P
