They need to be at least semi-competitive during the holidays.

people are underestimate the power of 99 dollar PSP, it will do great during the holiday season, holding the fort until Vita shows up
Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

bought my psp way too early ¬_¬ I actually like the look of the psp mark 4...
I'm not expecting much from a 50$ price cut.
Many people have a 200$ mental barrier.

well, they're really cheap now, so if you like it.....

A 99 Euro PSP that you can't go online with (has no wi-fi).
Sounds like ideal console for people-stealing-shit-on-high-seas (Pirates)

i think its the correct move
they only expected 15m for this year which would be too low for $299
they make profit
they are sending a message that Wii U will not matter and they will overlap it
they will try to offer value with lower bigger HDD and other bundles
bigger price-cit would have also effected PS VITA launch as it would have diverted attention

While I respect your opinions most of the time and here as well I do however disagree with you. I think a $249 PS3 will have a somewhat significant effect. With sales of PS3s in the U.S. roughly around 20,000 less than X360 a week I think this will push them to about even or a bit above X360 in the U.S. And I think it will increase their lead over X360 of around 20,000 more units a week to around 30 or 40,000 more units a week in Europe than X360.
I think MS would be rather foolish to not drop their prices, especially if they want to keep ahead in the U.S. market and relevent in the Euro market. I think we will see a price cut from MS within the next few weeks now. I always believed that Sony would cut their price by $50 first and then MS would follow.

Who even are you replying to? No one mentioned anything about this in this thread...
But since you did bring it up, I will reply. Microsoft will cut, and quite frankly, can easily afford to cut $100 and still break even on the console. Expect a moderate few week bump to sales for the PS3 from this $50 cut and a huge surge in 360 sales when their cut comes along.
