Forums - Sony - Sony price cuts - PS3 $249, PSP €99 (Europe)

Gotta say I'm surprised. I really thought they would cut early next year so they could try to recoup their massive debt from the PS3's first couple years and R&D costs. They must have really brought down how much it costs to make the console.

Well that means a X360 cut is imminent now. There goes that prediction i had

look at the bigger pciture

sony could do what you said but it would lose ground in the long term

SONY has to keep the brand relevant otherwise even if they recoup the massive debt, after a while the company will lose as other brands will grow

My prediction is heading the right way ^_^

Now this is gonna make everything interesting. Massive sales for the rest of the year.

I'm gonna make a statement. From the week the price cut rest of this year ps3 will out sell 360 1.5x times .

You heard it from me first

I think they should have cut it more to be honest, but lets see how much it sells next week now

Why would microsoft cut to $149? They're selling well in the U.S, and they discontinued the console in japan..

The only thing that would make sense is to cut in Europe

The only way microsoft would cut the price in the U.S, would be if a $249 PS3 is enough to become a threat as a competitive system stealing a significant amount of market share, that is unlikely though, it'll probably outsell the 360 by a significant amount globally in the short term, but microsoft is doing well at this price, and shouldn't cut yet

And BTW a new PSP model at €99 is also awesome, and a good way to get some sales away from the 3DS, especially in Japan.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

That's a moderate cut. Nothing too massive. We'll see how well the PS3 does in the next couple of weeks. I don't think they cut they price enough. $50 isn't really that big of a drop off. I could see them dropping to $199 early next year.

Respond to Nintendo's 3DS pricecut?
That makes the PSP cheaper than DSi.

I did look at the bigger picture Sony globally has been in the lead all year so I simply thought they would ride out the rest of the year trying to maximize profits then cut early next year.  For shareholders profits are much more important than market share.

I don't think its a mistake that they are cutting price just unexpected for me.

Unexpected. I thought Sony was out-selling its competition on a global scale. I guess they want to take the U.S.A., too!
