I know it probably won't but I'm alittle upset with it at the moment.

My 3DS, I take really good care of all my systems. My origional DS was great the bottom screen only a few scratches I upgraded to DSLIte and not a scratch on it have it to this day. My DSi not a single scratch the system works great.

My 3DS within these five months the sides of the top 3D screen are scratched to hell. It looks like water droplets over parts of the screen. But the middle of the 3D screen is fine. I asked about it here and Rol pointed out that when the screen folds it rubs the screen on the sides of the lower screen. i whipe my screen daily with microfibre and I always tap lightly (So my bottom screen is great). But my upper 3D screen is a mess.

Now why is my upper screen so scratched to shit? Well according to Rol and I somewhat have to agree its because the upper screen is larger and the grid around the lower screen presses into the upper screen when closed.

I was just thinking within a year I'll have to send it to Nintendo to get it fixed or replaced. This got me wondering if Nintendo would fix it for free due to the massive design flaw causing the screen to scratch or if I would be out the cash (I fully expect to pay for it).

Any other 3DS owners noticing scratches on their 3D top screen? Do you think Nintendo will fix it pro-bono or not? Maybe their will be a discount or something. Also is their a way Nintendo could fix this design flaw for future units?

I can see lines of dirt from the lower edge on my upper screen, but i just checked and they're not scratches

Should've gotten the blue model though. Black is smudged as all hell...

I have come to believe that it's not a general flaw in design, otherwise there would have been a huge uproar over this on the internet. It's probably similar to the DS Lite where a minority of units initially had problems with their hinges, so in other words there are only some 3DSes that have their hinges not aligned properly, causing the upper screen to get scratched by the grid of the lower screen. I checked my 3DS again and it's actually just the left side of the upper screen that has a vertical scratch while the right side is clean.

Yup, and due to the screen being so shiny/glossy, it's easy to see any dirt accumulated, even if not a scratch, which will be in-your-face obivious.

There's no way you can see-with-naked-eyes how much the bottom screen is off, thought. The top screen will tell you, just that.

So, even if the ridges don't scratch your screen, you'll still see lines of dirt from your dirty hands rubbing the bottom screen.

I think it's time they design their console to be played with 1 hand.

OT: call Nintendo and see what they can do. Make sure you remind them you're eligible for ambassidor program if they are replacing your console :)

srry no discounts or free replacements from Nintendo, but they should.

When Rol mentioned this, I googled it since someone had also mentioned this on a youtube video. I found a couple of stories on this but nothing concrete. I wipe my 3DS with Windex Glass Cleaner. I've seen these "scratches" on my 3DS above the analog nub and the touch screen but for me, they wipe right off.

I say give Nintendo a call. I'm sure you won't be the first and I'm almost positive that they'll repair the system for free (a guy in the comments section of a youtube video said this, too. I believe him because I'm gullible.). Some suggestions were to keep a cloth between the top screen and the bottom screen. I say just keep it clean (which you have been doing) especially along the edges of that bottom screen.

No way warranty will cover it, even if it's a design flaw, some 360s had a design flaw where even slight vibrations would make the disc drive scratch disks (it wasn't properly aligned) and nothing came of that. That said given how much trouble Nintendo is in right now if you call them in a fury and vow never to buy any Nintendo products again they may fix it for free to keep you as a customer.

Can't do that, I don't really lie often on purpose and I love Nintendo's software way to much to actually not buy another Nintendo console. I think I'm going to email Nintendo about it and see what they say. As someone else said even if Nintendo fixes the unit whats to say the next cone doesn't have the exact same problem.

However I'm also debating just living with the scratches, Nintendo would take awhile to fix it. When I had my 360 fixed it was gone like a month and a half. I want StarFox, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart and Kid Icarus playable I don't wanna miss out on gaming time because of these stupid scratches.

I love my 3DS too much!

well it doesn't have to be you, it can be a friend who's a good actor and just gives your information when they ask.

Maybe it's part of their plan then they'll release a new revamped 3ds that fixes problems like the ones you stated.
