Forums - General - APPLE to be the Most VALUABLE Company in the world

I am on record as stating Apples bubble will have burst within 5 years. The caveat to cover my arse is they come up with a new IPOD (I do not mean music player by the way) but at this moment in time I see no IPOD's on the horizon.

People have been hating apple for years and it seems the more people that hate apple the more successful they become.

An analyst once stated that Apple products are not for the poor.
How else can apple have less than 5% of the phone market and yet control 66% of the profits?

On average an iPhone owner can afford to spend far more on apps than an average Android phone owner who can get most android phones for free on contract. ... this source came from an hard copy consumers magazine I found and read on the train.

This is Apple's strength. Aim for the smaller but more affluent middle and upper class markets. As they say, more than 80% or whatever of the wealth are controlled by that group.

As an Andoid user I think it is a great phone and the fact that Android is free (open source) appeals to me, but it is not going to make Google richer directly from OS sales.

About oil.....there is a very...interesting theory picking up in the academic world that oil is a substance that might replenish on it's own accord because....some genetic and chemistry studies have shown that oil does not derive from organic substances. Some theories question whether it does not come from natural geothermal processes from within the earths crust....But like i said earlier, this is just a theory that should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt ;)

But if it were true....oh the looks on the faces of ecologists would be priceless :)

So where are these magical replenishing oil fields that this theory predicts? And if it's true, why do all the known oil fields decline in production and require more and more aggressive techniques to get oil out?

It sounds like a Santa Claus theory...

Amid all of the bad news on Wall Street, Apple continues to be the Rocky Balboa to the economy's Apollo Creed.

lol that's the stupidest comparison I've ever read. Apollo won in the end so are they saying Apple is going to lose? Unless they're talking about Rocky II.

Whatever though I hate Apple. I love the iPod but I can't stand their computers or phones. I don't get how they can put out a new phone annually with minor improvements (honestly how much better is 4g over 3g?) and people line up for hours to get it.

Actually, Apple is undervalued. Their price to earnings ratio keeps falling and falling, even while they maintain growth of 50-100% year after year.

http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2011/08/09/apple-is-cheaper-at-353-21-than-it-was-at-78-20/

http://www.asymco.com/2011/07/25/apples-share-price-adjusted-for-earnings-and-growth-reaches-new-low/

Sure if you use P/E earnings ratio Apple is undervalued.

The thing with P/E is that originally it was designed as a metric to measure the value of a stock in terms of how long it would take you to recoup your investment,

The problem with Apple is that they return none of those colossal earnings to their stock holders, so I'm not sure we should be using P/E to measure the real valuation of those kind of companies...

I would agree you have to include the cash pile in the valuation too but once again most people doing so get the maths wrong as they value 1$ of cash in Apple's hand as 1$ of cash available to stock holder and that's incorrect as if Apple was to return that cash, for example as a big dividend like Microsoft did several years ago, taxes would kick in and it would be closer to something like 1$ on Apple's book is like 75 cents in the investors hands.......

That's exactly why most Apple shareholders are happy that Apple hoards the money. They get a better return if Apple uses it to grow (which Apple does by using it to gain secure, favourable component supply deals) than if Apple pays a dividend.

If you read the Asymco link, Apple's cash pile is pretty much the only correlation he can find to their market cap, but even that's dipped down below the trend line. It's pretty wierd when the stock market encourages a company to sit on a bank account.

And there's a good reason why Apple's squeezing content retailers like Amazon out of the App Store. Imagine if PSN had a free download link to XBLA. You could buy XBLA games on your PS3, but all the retail earnings would go to Microsoft. Sony wouldn't see a dime. Would you really expect Sony to tolerate that situation?

Except Amazon is not stupid and an Ipad isn't a game console designed and sold to play licenced dedicated games... There isn't anywhhere a contract that says that to sell software on am Ipad you have to pay a licence to Apple and can only do so through the Apple store).

All Apple will succeed by doing that is encourage the migration of the big apps to HTML5 where Apple will never see a dime... Only the small apps will stay in the store as they lack the marketing/brand power to get visits on their site...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Right, so what's the difference between an app on Apple's store that doesn't make Apple a dime and a web app that doesn't make Apple a dime?

Answer: The web app isn't costing Apple money to host, review, and promote.
