Forums - General - Anonymous Announces “Operation Facebook”

Infamous advanced hacking group behind many hacking attacks lately like the PlayStation Network outage and more, Anonymous have announced they’re now targeting the globally famous social network, Facebook.

Considering all the identity and data theft from “secure” places like PlayStation Network and PayPal, I’d consider faking or even clearing your real information from Facebook.

According to Anonymous, Facebook is coming down this November 5th, 2011.

Wow Anonymous are such a-holes. Leave the internet populace alone. Every one of Anonymous's hacks have lead to suffering on behalf of web users. They claim to be like Robin hood and such raiding the big wealthy corporations for the benefit of the small time consumer. Well guess what bringing down PSN and now claiming they will take down FaceBook seriously get a freaking life.

Also giving FaceBook months of notice and giving a date of Nov 5th 2011 is even more cocky. Lets hope FaceBook takes this threat seriously and protects its users as well as back hacks their sorry asses and get us some justice.

As for changing my info, theirs nothing on FaceBook that isn't already widely availible all over the internet. I am JoelCool7 (Joel Reimer) even a google search of JoelCool7 will tell you more about me then my FaceBook profile. If somebody does have the balls to try and steal my identity their in for some trouble because I'm pretty sure I'd find out pretty quickly.

Not to mention my credit card info and such is pretty safe. All I have to worry about is identity theft and honestly this is Canada we have a great Government and police. If somebody steals my identity they will be brought to justice. Not that I see anyone wanting to steal my identity in the first place.

I don't think it's wise to issue a challenge to get yourself hacked.

And if the person who steals your identity isn't in Canada?

Turns on the news tomorow. Canadian citizen Joel Reimer planted a bomb on a train in Turkey. Interpol issues an arrest warrant for the British Columbia man...... Oh shit!

On a serious note I guess Galaki's alittle right I sorta did just challenge someone to hack me...whoops! I wonder how much damage somebody could do with the info I have availible on the net? Eeeek!

Your info may be scattered all over the net, but that's the whole point of it, scattered. This makes it hard for id theft since you may share names and other such info with someone else. It would be too much trouble to do id theft that way.

With facebook, however, you have all the info harvested in one convenient place, making id theft all that much easier.

If you want to erase your track, it's also easier if your info is scattered. I.E. You change you nick altogether. Since there are many people may be sharing the same real name as you, there's no way to be sure the new nick that you go by is you. Now, put that on facebook and you're stuck forever when people can easier browse your history.

This is the same excuse people trying to give when Sony got hacked. Sony harvested too much info together in 1 convenvient place. Although, to be fair, all companies are trying to harvest info regardless whether they needed it. They could bundle and sell that info for a lot of money.

Unfortunetly for everyone who is a FaceBook user clearing out all your data or closing your account won't actually clear your data from FaceBook. I had someone trying to frame me for something so I hired a lawyer the first thing he said was did I have any convo's with the individual on FaceBook. I said I did but I deleted them. He then told me that if I read the user agreement that FaceBook retains records of all convo's and all information is stored. So I luckily had evidence and we settled out of court.

Long story short if you have ever been a FaceBook user their is nothing you can do to protect yourself because FaceBook has all your info stored. If someone hacks them with the intent of using your info then they will have access to it regardless of whether you liquidate your profile.

However I don't think Anonymous will be giving your personal info away it would be pretty hypocritical as their reason given in their official press release for hacking FaceBook is that FaceBook sells its users personal info to Governments.

So stealing that info and providing it to the whole world free of charge seems a bit insaine, then again these are terrorists and just like all terrorists they are lacking in the sanity department!

One of the main reasons for stealing an identity is for financial advantage. They don't actually need to be in the country for it.

Finally, something good from them (HUGE social networking hater here).
Hopefully this'll deal Facebook quite a good blow.
