If you want to erase your track, it's also easier if your info is scattered. I.E. You change you nick altogether. Since there are many people may be sharing the same real name as you, there's no way to be sure the new nick that you go by is you. Now, put that on facebook and you're stuck forever when people can easier browse your history.

This is the same excuse people trying to give when Sony got hacked. Sony harvested too much info together in 1 convenvient place. Although, to be fair, all companies are trying to harvest info regardless whether they needed it. They could bundle and sell that info for a lot of money.
