I've been playing old Gamecube/PS2 games (at my kid's request) and they aren't holding up nearly as well as I expected. TLG should be more in line with what we consider the standard to be. |
I know what you're saying. Old games that we once thought were incredible can become aged as time goes on. This applies to most games, but I don't think SOTC will follow this rule.
I didn't play the game until last year and I thought it was amazing. It was one of the few games that left me sucked in from start to finish. The gameplay was very simple. I don't think the game is aged because, in terms of gameplay, it wasn't really complex enough to have any elements that would evolve & change with time. The game was basically ride horse, defeat monster, go to headquarters, repeat. It didn't really have any 'elements' that could actually become aged with time.
The game was amazing because of its beautiful, well-constructed world, it's puzzling, giant, enemies, and it's simplicity. I don't think any of those factors have been greatly improved upon.
Besides, a 15 year old game, OOT, managed to please critics (and you!) despite it having an even greater potential to be old. I think SOTC, a simpler & younger game, can do the same.
Notice I didn't say ICO because I haven't played it. But as for SOTC, I don't really think it's aged. I can't think of any games that were similar & superior in the last few years. I suggest you play SOTC (again?) and let me know if it's aged. If you think it is, then I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. May I ask what old PS2/Gamecube games you were playing? Also, are there any games similar to SOTC that could have made it appear aged?
