Forums - Gaming - Predict 360 and PS3 fall price-cuts

possibilities

$250 ps3 or $200 ps3

$200 360 with HDD axe arcade intro even bigger hdd 360 or drops of 50 on current

hard to choose but i'll say $200 ps3 and $200 360 with HDD

i believe both will be up or bout even from last yr cause of huge SW releases and people moving on form the wii as its sales will be below both for the holiday time

Here Goes:
Sony
-320 gig Move/Sports Champions bundle: $299 ($100 cut)
-500 gig Battlefield 3 bundle: $299
-Move Standalone: $50 ($50 cut)

Microsoft
-4 gig Kinect bundle: $199 ($100 cut) (phase out of the current 4 gig w/out kinect model)
-250 gig Kinect bundle: $299 ($100 cut) (phase out of the current 250 gig w/out Kinect model)
-320 gig Gears of War 3 LE bundle: $399
-Kinect Standalone: $99 ($50 cut)

A few things to note; the 500 gig battlefield PS3 bundle is highly speculation, but Sony will maintain some sort of hardcore type bundle without the move, but now at the same price as the move bundle. This will also be around only for the holidays, with a new game pack in coming in 2012.

Yes, believe it or not Microsoft is still charging a whopping $399 for the current 250 gig kinect bundle which absolutely guarantees a $100 cut on this model. Also worth noting is that come Christmas time, all 360 sku's will come with Kinect whether you want it or not. (unless you pay $399 for the Gears bundle or.. see below)

Also, there will be a flury of other bundles by Microsoft for every major game they come out with. in addition to the Gears bundle, there will probably be another Halo skinned bundle with combat evolved. Possibly even a Forza and COD bundle. And watch them price them all at $399. (These will cost more and will not have Kinect, but will have a bigger HDD at 320 gig and 2 premium custom skinned controllers)

So, the values of the consoles are changing, but not the bottom line price of either the PS3 or the 360.

Cheapest the PS3 is now AND during the holidays: $299
Cheapest the 360 is now AND during the holidays: $199

bring on the holidays!

Free Kinect/PS Move included with every console purchase would be a great value added marketing move to boost 4th quarter 2011 sales.

Both systems will have a good line up of games in the last 4 months of the year. Good bundles are on the way. Possible increase in the size of the HDDs.

Effectively a $100 price cut in both cases while not actully dropping in $$. Maybe, but I don't see it for PS3 unless there's a new Move title that really captures the prospective buyer. I also don't think MS want to give away the Kinect.

Dropping the motion controller bundles by $50 might be on the cards.

Really Seece? It proves nothing?

You do realize as a retailer at Gamestop we aren't allowed to really mess with price on confirmed pre-ordered bundles. We have an exact price on that hardware that we have straight up been told will NOT change. What about customers that already fully pre-paid their bundles. Then all the sudden MS drops the price and we have to refund ALL that revenue to consumers, it would absolutely destroy are projected sales margins and quotas for the holidays and would start an absolute riot between the two of us.

Its not getting a price drop I'll be on it.

what bundles?

pre-order is for new products

and all the retail chains are infromed in advance of the price-cuts by the manufacturer so gamestop headquarters would have it all planned

PS3 entry level - $249
PS3 bigger HDD - $299
PS3 Move Bundle - $349 (Correct me if I'm wrong but i think this bundle is currently discontinued)
Move will stay $99

For Xbox 360 it's harder.
X360 8gb - $199
X360 w Kinect and HDD - $299
Kinect drops to $99

Move bundle is not discontinued, why would it be?

Move is already discounted and selling for $89.so it can only go lower or stay the same

As others have said, there's no way Sony's going to reach 15m FY without a price cut. The only big game they currently have for this FY is Uncharted 3. They must be prepared to cut the price by at least $50. I don't think the PS3 will drop to $199 because, honestly, that 15m prediction would be too low.

There is the possibility that they were over-confident in their 2011 line-up and thought they could do 15m without a price cut. I doubt it, it's possible though.

I think MS will wait and see what happens this year before dropping their price. I can see them being very confident in Kinect and deciding to hold off on the price cut for a few months. They'll drop the price of the 360 if the PS3 takes off and/or if Kinect doesn't do as much as they wanted.

If they can stay ahead of Sony and Kinect does well, then I can see them waiting until maybe March/April before making a price drop.

My prediction
- PS3: $249
- X360: Depends on how well Sony & Kinect does.

50 dollar price cut each.

They should do a price cut and do a PS3 PSV bundle for 450. Get a PS3, PSV and Ruin for 450 would be a neat bundle, or another title that is on PS3 and PSV with cross play.

Maybe for Christmas 2012

Sorry, as i am going by Best Buy and Gamestop sites. Best Buy doesn't have the PS3 Move Bundle. Also, both sites have the Move Sports Champion Bundle for $99, i think you may have been looking at a short term sale, not retail set or msrp price.

Well, there you go. I certainly don't know how to read the tea leaves. I wasn't expecting Sony to be first to blink. Thinking about PS3 performance in North America though, it does make sense for Sony to drop the price to try to win back some market share.

I think MS will follow suit before the holidays.

I also think the 2nd half of the price cut will come before holiday 2012.
