Forums - Gaming - Predict 360 and PS3 fall price-cuts

PS3 entry level - $249
PS3 bigger HDD - $299
PS3 Move Bundle - $349 (Correct me if I'm wrong but i think this bundle is currently discontinued)
Move will stay $99

For Xbox 360 it's harder.
X360 8gb - $199
X360 w Kinect and HDD - $299
Kinect drops to $99

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

The prices of the two holiday bundles this year confirm this. There's no room for pricecut in the Retail Price. MS will sit out a price cut this year, Ride Kinect, Gears, and the big multi-plats through the holidays and cut price early next year.

That proves nothing, can easily be lowered when they announce a price cut in less than 2 weeks.

There is also plenty of room for a price cut ...

indeed,if Ben is right, then PS3 not getting price cut this year too

because TOX edition(160GB PS3+1 controller+TOX game) =37980 yen(this price=PS3+1 game in Japan)

Really Seece? It proves nothing?

You do realize as a retailer at Gamestop we aren't allowed to really mess with price on confirmed pre-ordered bundles. We have an exact price on that hardware that we have straight up been told will NOT change. What about customers that already fully pre-paid their bundles. Then all the sudden MS drops the price and we have to refund ALL that revenue to consumers, it would absolutely destroy are projected sales margins and quotas for the holidays and would start an absolute riot between the two of us.

Its not getting a price drop I'll be on it.

And for that matter I'm not convinced PS3 is getting a price drop either. In fact I'm pretty convinced this year both companies are going to focus on pushing their consoles value and instead dropping price next year. Financially it makes zero sense for Sony to drop. MS could afford it sure but I see no signs pointing them to cutting. I think their convinced they'll win the holidays, eat up all that revenue and cut early next year.

Still don't buy it, maybe those bundles will stay the same, but MS are secretive, especially about price drops.

We'll see, but Gamestop isn't really indicative of anything in the greater scheme of things.

Fact of the matter is, neither are going to up yoy without a cut. Sony project an extra 700k, with no price cut and no GT5? with the price cut being over 2 years old by xmas? I don't think so.

With 360, they don't have the benefit of Kinect being at launch, Start Wars ect can ffset that, marginally increase that in best case scenario, but up yoy? With all the yoy lossess they're making right now thanks to slim? and to go ahead and say they'll beat Sony who project 15 mill? .. that's 1.3 over their shipments last year.

Not going to predict prices, but I predict Sony will only cut PS3 price if MS cuts 360 price. Now that Wii's price cut has kind of lost momentum I'm wondering whether MS will hold out and enjoy another holiday of very good sales at the current price (and profit).

PS3/360 price cuts will be held back to try to dampen Wii U launch a bit. Both systems seeing big $100 cuts around Wii U launch and cuts in price for Kinect and Move.

The only reason I can see the 360 not getting a price cut this year is because it's doing excellent in certain countries where it doesn't need a price cut, and everywhere else a price cut would do little to change its current level of sales.

At this point, a price cut could very well lose them money overall.

But at the same time, I cannot see Sony cutting price while Microsoft does not.

As for what Sony could do, I see them either dropping to $249 this year, then $199 next year, or dropping straight to $199 this year, then riding that price until PS4 launches. I think the mere fact that it's been five years and the console still isn't $199 is motive enough to do the latter.

Free Kinect/PS Move included with every console purchase would be a great value added marketing move to boost 4th quarter 2011 sales.

Both systems will have a good line up of games in the last 4 months of the year. Good bundles are on the way. Possible increase in the size of the HDDs.
