Terrible sales for 1st party PS3 games.

How many did they all sell?

As ioi doesn't want to offer us the full chart anymore I can only tell from the available data that Sony is not in the top 5 of publishers, i.e. for the week ending 30th July they are below Atlus with 249.000 copies sold. This means Nintendo sold more than 550.000 games more in one week than Sony. Only one Sony published game in the top 40 compared to Nintendo with 11 (not counting Wii Sports). Provided I read the data correctly.

Ah, I see. So you don't know how many they sold and you're comparing them to Nintendo first party sales for Wii, DS and 3DS combined with all the bundled numbers included.

Fair enough. I see the logic you're using there.

OT:
With all the Wii bundled SW taken away from the SW totals, PS3 and 360 both sold more SW than Wii. Terrible Wii SW sales. <-- He isn't a mod anymore, so I can say this without making a mod cry. As it should be.

So awful sales for anything Nintendo-related (excluding the DS, you rule man!) Goldeneye did amazing, incredible LBP1 sales, but to be honest I don't know how can it outsell the sequel

The only reason why he didn't mention Sony first party software sales for the PS2 and PSP is because they are non-existent at this point, but that doesn't mean that Nintendo has a three to one advantage when it comes to platforms. Besides, it's not like Sony doesn't bundle a lot of their software, it's just that people opt to avoid it. Like everything concerning Move, for example.

Meh, I just think it's silly saying something like that when we have no idea how much the PS3 1st party stuff sold, and then going on to compare this non-exstent number with 3 Nintendo platforms worth of 1st party SW...

Edit: And wtf at LBP?

From the data provided I can tell that Sony 1st party games on PS3, PSP and PS2 combined sold below 249.000 copies last week and that's less than at least Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft, Activision and Atlus (the top 5 publishers for the week), but of course for a good part of today's VGC community Nintendo software is (still) mostly bundled and of course Sony self-published software sales are always fine, even if the only Sony game that made it to the Top 40 sold 29.000 copies worldwide.

He mentioned the publisher comparison, so he actually put three platforms versus three. Also, this "non-existent" number is in so far known as it can't be higher than 250k units, so it's not like he was making random stuff up.

"Terrible sales for 1st party PS3 games."

That's what I was replying to. We have no idea how much PS3 1st party games sold, so why say such a stupid thing, and only about PS3? lol And then go on and compare 1st party sales on Wii, DS and 3DS (With bundles) to PS3 (And apparently) PSP and PS2 (lol)...?

@okr

Why didn't you say anything about 1st party Xbox sales by the way? Why focus on PS3?

The PS3 posted the highest hardware sales for the week, but first party software didn't perform all that great and sales do indeed look terrible when compared to the top publisher for the week.

In the last months people have been making all kinds of comparisons between Sony and Nintendo products in these threads, but now that it isn't in Sony's favor it becomes an issue? You can't be serious, Carl. Accept reality and move on.

I'll accept that the PS3 1st party SW is terrible when and if we get the numbers, and if they are indeed terrible.

Why didn't you say anything about 1st party Xbox

Because 360's Microsoft-published games are doing fine in comparison to PS3's Sony-published games. Basically and afaik that's currently Halo games and Kinect games plus Gears of War 3 later this year (which will be without a doubt a huge seller). These MS-published games sell very well, some of them even excellently. The vast majority of Sony-published games sold are on PS3 today and I don't think these games are really successful compared to the "core gamer" hype most of them get before release. These Sony games are heavily hyped and discussed on VGC (more than Wii/3DS/DS/PSP/360 1st or 2nd party games). Games like Infamous 2, LBP2 and Killzone 3 get plenty of threads on VGC but for some reasons in WW Up threads their sales seem always to be okay, no matter how low. It's just an obervation I made, it has nothing to do with my console or company preference (I own PS3/PSP/Wii/DS/360 and a gaming laptop as PC will always be my favourite gaming platform).

I don't think that this year Sony is very successful with their self-published games on PS3. More than 50 million consoles sold and yet eagerly awaited and discussed games like Killzone 3, Infamous 2, LBP2 sell to only a fraction of system owners. The comparably low sales where explained to me before by other members with reasons like diversity of released games and Sony console owners' tastes, 3rd party success on PS3 and comparably low advertising, but I'm not sure if these are the real reasons. More and more I think that the real reason could be much simpler: Despite all the hype and buzz surrounding many of Sony's games the only new Sony IP this gen that was actually well accepted by PS owners (and Sony fans among them) is Uncharted.

Alrighty, go PS3! We're probably gonna be seeing PS3> 360>Wii for the next few weeks. I'm not aware of any AAA titles coming to the consoles, except for resistance 3, which I don't think will boost the PS3 much, but I'm still buying this.

Umm... Gears 3? And Resistance 3 isn't close to a AAA title. For the PS3 it's Uncharted 3.
