Because it's "trendy" and in with the kids of today. It's the same reason they put numbers into the names of games like F3AR AKA Fear 3, it's only there to catch the buyers interest no matter how little it does. When you see something out of the ordinary your more likely to look at it and in games case gives a better chance of being sold to "hipster" consumers. And on a final note I hate Hipster's with all my heart and soul.
Former something....

PlayStation III
Xbox CCCLX
It looks good on most things but not all lol.

"Porch monkey"? Silly Superchunk. Monkeys don't have porches! They live in tree-houses!
I'm against Roman numerals, too. I mean, what have the Romans ever done for anyone except give us the phrase, "When in Rome...."? I say we use hash marks.

Hence why I said we use both system depending on the situation. But since the imperial system use smaller round unit, its often faster when talking about dimension, inside 1 meter, you have 1 foot, 2 feets and 3 feets. And between, when using the imperial system you dont say 3.28 feets, you say 3 feets and a quarter ;) (3 feets and 9/32 if you need that kind of precision). 3.28 feets is like using both the metric and imperial system at the same time :P.
If my English teacher taught me correctly you don't say 3 feets. ...

I wholly disagree with this post. Roman numerals have much to do with the environment and feeling of the game itself. If it is a game about times that could relate to what Rome was like (or is percieved to have been) in the past, these numerals fit well. If not, the don't. That way we could see that a game like Halo benefits more from standard (modern after a fashion) numbers, but games like Age of Empires would benefit more from roman numerals, because they fit better in the style of the game.

The modern number system comes from India, not the Arabs. It was stolen when Muslim invaders tried to take over India. So get used to the fact that your actually using a Hindu number system every day of your life...
More importantly, you can't really do math with Roman numberals since there is no 'zero' and everything becomes a mess.
