John Lucas did =)

from E3 2006 it was pretty obvious that the Wii was something special. Anyone who saw the mad crowd rush for the Wii should have known that the Wii was going to sell like gangbusters. I'm just disappointed I didn't go with my gut feeling and buy Nintendo stock

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I love u guys. I like to lose weight on my wii fit board

I think people focus too heavily on the price alone ... Certainly, there are a lot of people who would never consider buying a console for more than $199 (or possibly $299) but simply lowering the price to $199 (or $299) will not make these people buy your console.

What is truely important is how your price, features, bundles, full priced game library, value priced game library, and marketing campaign compares to your competition. If your console is $100 more than the competition your entire package has to justify a $100 increase in price ... If your console is $100 less than the competition you still have to have an appealing product for your competition.

Would anyone have thought Wii would...

At the 1st day of 2008....

1 year into the "next gen" Nintendo Wii will be on the verge of hitting 20 Mil?

While the Sony PS3 is nearing 9 mil in the same time?

And 2 years into the game, Microsoft has only gotten rid of 16 mil 360's?

Is this the year of price cuts yet again for 360? because I see sony is silently creeping on microsoft's ho hum sales.

I predict Sony and Microsoft duking it out by dropping prices while Nintendo just continues to do its own thing on its own terms :)

Stole my post, jerk.  JL has pretty much called this entire generation.  The only thing he might be off on is the WiiFit thing.  I personally believe, though, that Nintendo took note of his prediction and is making a big effort to ramp up WiiFit production so that it can beat Halo numbers using American and Others numbers.  They seem to be listening to everything else he says...

Trust me when ps3 is $299.99 thats when you will see sony dominating.

I won't dominate but it will crush the 36. The Wii on the other hand will destroy them both.

Most likely to occur in 2008.

Funny how you guys think the 360 is going to get crushed into the wind like its the dreamcast, microsoft wont sit by litting themselves die like sega did. X360 will soon gain market share.
Microsoft is content with their position atm. M$ isnt in the game really to b number one in the market place.

ps3 will not win this gen! stop talking doodoo! look at my sig. the ps3 will do extremely well. just not wii well. it will beat 360. i don't know how long you will deny the factor, but it's true.

off topic:

DOES ANYONE WANT TO START A HISTORY OF LEOJ THREAD? (A.K.A THE SONY EXEC ON VGCHARTZ!!!)
Why do ppl keep bashing leo he's not all Sony he likes other consoles etc. He just h8s fanboy's and he likes Sony so what he wants to defend his own co. of choice isnt that what everyone else does? By making fun of the few that are not Nintendo people you all are harming the rep. of this website making it seem to outsiders that this is a Nintendo biased website. ioi and thesource work too hard to get that labling harming them.

I think the only reasons the PS3 even got the sales it did this year were brand loyalty (especially in some European countries) and the RROD problem with the 360. Basically the decisions Sony made on purpose were bad ones and hurt the PS3's chances for success. On the other hand the things that hurt the 360 were unforseen (it's not like the RROD probem was purposely planned like including the cell and blu-ray in the PS3). Basically Sony lucked out because Microsoft stumbled through an unforseen problem.

Had the 360 never encountered the RROD problem I have no doubt the system would have blown past the 20 million mark sometime in 2007.

As for the Wii I don't think games like Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Paper Mario, deserve much credit if any for the system's success and that Wii Sports deserves pretty much all the credit. Without Wii Sports I believe the system would have been another Gamecube because it's not like the Nintendo hardcore would have suddenly ballooned up out of nowhere, if there were that many of them the Gamecube would have been far more sucessful.

If you don't think Microsoft noticed the RROD problem in QA, then you think they're even more incompetent than I do.  In all likelihood, they knew about the problem, but went forward anyways to be first out the gate.  They figured consumers would fall for the trick, allowing them to get a larger game library faster.  They were right.

It would be equivalent to this:

"As for the 360 I don't think games like Gears of War, Mass Effect, and Bioshock, deserve much credit if any for the system's success and that Halo 3 deserves pretty much all the credit. Without Halo 3 I believe the system would have been another Xbox because it's not like the Microsoft hardcore would have purchased the console without the promise of Halo 3, if there were that many people who wanted the console for reasons other than Halo the Xbox would have been far more sucessful."

What I said isn't equivalent to that at all. Do you think there would be less Wii sales now if MP3 for example had not been released? Do you think there would be less Wii sales now if Super Paper Mario had not been released? Ok and finally how many sales of Wii can be credited to SMG that wouldn't have sold otherwise? If it hadn't been released would the Wii have sold millions less and had been easily available on store shelves during November and December? If the Super Mario franchise is so godly why didn't Super Mario Sunshine push the Gamecube into first place during the Gamecube's first year? Yeah whatever...

If their were no Wii shortages and we were to compare Wii sales with and without those games I guarantee you that there would be a meaningful difference. You are really just playing logic games here.  Yes Wii Sports was the launch title that started the interest and propelled it to sellouts.  But that in no way means that Wii Sports alone is responsible for the continued sellouts.  MP3, SPM, SMG, etc... are all a part of the continued success of the Wii in a big way.

Individually Wii Sports has been the biggest contributer, nobody disputes that, but its not the only meaningful factor.

As for your dismissive attitude ("Yeah whatever...") you can check that at the door.  If you want to post your opinions you should know that people are free to disagree.  If you don't want a part in that discussion then don't post in the first place.
