Forums - Gaming - The Battle of Time: Chrono Trigger vs. Chrono Cross

I'll take CC over CT any day. Even having played the PS1 port AND the DS port, I see CC as the better overall game and the gameplay mechanics were awesome.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

Test of time? Both withstand it, though I never played Chrono Cross, I REALLY want to play it when the opportunity arrises.

They are both really good games o_O;

I love them both. There is no doubt in my mind however, that CT is by far the superior game. That's not to say CC isn't a good game, it's in fact a fantastic game, just not as fantastic as CT. With CC, I just felt that S-E took a lot of the things that I loved about CT and removed them from the game. For example Akira Toriyama was absent from the character and enemy design, CC didn't have the ahead of it's time lack of separate battle screen thing that I loved in CT, CC replaced the ATB with another good, but IMO inferior battle system. I'm not quite sure why people hate on CC so much, maybe it falls into the SM Sunshine trap of being more than marginally inferior to it's predecessor/s and everyone expecting too much from it, despite it being a good game nonetheless.

Both are amazing even now, but CC is just too perfect.

Chrono Cross is great, but Chrono Trigger is better.

I'm waiting for a PSN release to play Chrono Cross.

Chrono Cross was very overrated. Whether or not it is related to Chrono Trigger, it is still a poor man's Xenogears. In fact, they should have spent the resources working on Xenogears longer to flesh out the second disk rather than waste time on Chrono Cross.

Chrono Trigger obviously doesn't have the same sort of graphical issues as Chrono Cross, which was filled with pixelation and slowdown.

The music in Chrono Trigger was classic, Chrono Cross was a weak point for Mitsuda, many of the songs, like the lute song in the opening, were fairly irritating.

The battle system in Chrono Cross isn't very good; it used random encounters, and some sort of a stamina and elemental system which just made things more annoying than anything.
Chrono Trigger had a seamless system, and the battle system was excellent and way ahead of its time. Characters could execute moves, lines, area attacks, based on their positions and those of the enemy. Also, the dual and triple tech systems that all characters have access to are very cool, they essentially take weaker moves and amplify their effectiveness in exchange for the turns of other characters (ie. character A and B can do 2 weaker single actions like heal and attack, or one stronger action like a heal all or attack all attack).

Chrono Trigger is also one of the best paced RPGs ever, Chrono Cross was paced very poorly.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
