Simple question: What do you want next from Sony Santa Monica Studios. (God of War creators). As of now, they're just helping out with Starhawk, but I'm sure that's not they're main project at the moment. They're project hasn't been confirmed or mentioned yet, so we can only speculate as of now. They could be working on a new God of war, a new IP, or maybe an existing IP like Heavenly Sword. But what do you want them to do?
In my dream, they're working on a new IP. I hope it's an open world action adventure game. The company are already pros at combat design, creating creative enemies, and are pros at the PS3's architecture. I'm only worried that they may have trouble designing a large enough world and filling it with interesting elements. The game doesn't need much of a story. I just want some great combat, maybe some ocscasional puzzles, and a large open world for me to explore. It doesn't even have to be completely open, it can be a bunch of linear levels naturally integrated into an open world.
The PS3 really lacks many exclusives where you can sink long hours into the single player. Most of the PS3's recurring exclusive franchises are either online oriented, or have short single player experiences. Games like Uncharted, God of War, Heavy Rain, etc are great, well-polished games, but they're all quite linear and can be completed in appox. 10 hours. The only games I can think of that don't follow this trend is Gran Turismo and maybe inFamous. The former only releases every now and again , so that really only leaves inFamous as a recurring franchise that one can sink lots of hours into, depending on how you play it. There was Demon's Souls, but the creators went multiplat. There was also Valkyria Chronicles, but that went portable.
Here's hoping they're doing what I mentioned. I know they don't have much experience in open games, but as one of Sony's most creative developers, I think they could create a great experience if they tried. It doesn't have to be exceedingly long, mabye around 20 -25 hours. As I stated before, the game doesn't have to be completely open. It can be game with a lot of linear levels naturally integrated into an open world.
