I agree that an XL would be a better new model than any attempt at a slimmer 3DS. I think a bigger 3D display in particular would be the biggest draw although if they bother with a new design, it should be a given that they include the largest, high capacity battery they can possibly fit into the chassis. And a right analog disk.
The only problem is that unless they source an entirely different display technology (other than parallax barrier) provided by a new vender (unless Sharp has other commercial 3D displays they're not selling anywhere else), a bigger screen isn't going to fix the narrow angle of vision. That's just the way parallax barrier displays work. Either way, I'm not even convinced people are currently buying the 3DS for the 3D feature. The price drop along with the new Nintendo titles (mario and kart) should be given credit for the increased sales.
