The PSP at 37 weeks was 3,858,928. Way below the DS. PSP Numbers are from Auguest 20th 2005. The DS did outsell the PSP in its first year by a little over a million. The PSP did a little under 10 million in its first year

 Isn't that cause the PSP launched like ~18 weeks earlier in Japan then the USA, so the 37 week PSP figure pretty much only has 37 weeks of Japan, 20 weeks of USA and 0 weeks of Europe compared to the 3DS figure which is pretty much 37 weeks in all 3 regions... I think. So PSP and 3DS are gonna be about neck-and-neck at years end... PSP just under 10m... 3DS around 11m... with PSP having 6 months less in Europe and 3 months more in Japan (and no Japan launch numbers).

Very big yes.  I have to line up the 3DS by launch allign with the PSP to be much more fair.  Which I can do if you want me to i will line them up

All of that aside, keep in mind that there's still a holiday season for the 3DS to prove its worth. After all, we have seen what a single Super Mario game in Japan could do.

Look at those japanese sales this week!!

Everytime I see this thread I think how unfair the comparisson is... The DS didn't have to compete against the DS as the 3DS does... I mean, DS sales are still pretty solid!
Does anybody know how Game Boy Colour sales did during DS first year?

Yes, I know. GBC sales were basically non-existent during the DS's first year.

However, the GBA kept trucking along just fine after the DS launched. I would actually say that the GBA was stronger in the transitional phase as the DS is now, so the 3DS isn't at a disadvantage in this regard.

The DS decides to step up its game and gets a big boost from its last week. 3DS however stays in the same number
