Forums - Sony - Europe (Others) Embraces Sony For The Holidays

@ Kyros

Oh of course. That's why I said "XBOX 360:America" because that is it's cash cow. I don't know what the rest of the year holds, but if Microsoft can't turn it up in Europe and America begins to accept the PS3 (Price drop anyone?), then it could be over for MS. But who can predict what's going to happen, the year just started. That's why I said for the time being

"That's why I said for the time being"

true. Personally I think this time around there is room for both of them. They are almost equally powerful. With a little work some of the best-looking games look identical on both systems (CoD4) and the aera of the exclusive is coming to an end (with the exception of Nintendo)
Even if one of them clearly outsells the other the other console can still be profitable.

The stupid part is that there still are enough great games that will be exclusive to one or the other. So a clear winner would have advantages.

if the ps3 keeps selling lets say 50.000 more than the 360 every week from now
it wil cath it end april/begin may in europe

it would be nice if we could know in which countries the ps3 already has a bigger userbase, if there is any country, or how many are on the verge of it

i don't think this gonna happen...you're overestimating sales for the jan-apr timeframe: 50k console per week in others is probably what PS3 AT BEST* can expect to sell in feb/march...sales are still inflated: 2 days before christmas and boxing day are counted in this week's charts.

In other words unless X360 suddenly stops selling (i mean 0 per week) PS3 won't catch up X360 in april/may.

*mind that wii last year on feb/march in other was selling like 55-65k per week and there's no way that PS3 could perform like that in 2008

2008 year end sales (made in January 2008):

44.2 M 27.1 M 20.8 M

MS better wake up and smell the coffee in Euro/Others. They clearly dropped the ball this holiday and let Sony run free and it benefitted Sony greatly. I can only assume that MS couldn't cut prices further in Europe and stay profitable or they would have. In my opinion, Microsoft had an opportunity this christmas to obliterate sony by giving a bigger price cut but chose to do a small one and pack-in instead. Sony as a result had a much higher holiday sales number than I expected they would and you can bet your bottom dollar that a lot of those PS3s that sold over the holidays were at the expense of a sold 360... If MS doesn't cut the price early this year, Sony is going to eat them alive in Europe...

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

In many parts of Europe, Playstation is the symbol for console gaming. In some Euro countries PC was absolutely dominating gaming market prior to Playstation release. A very large percentage of average joe-s and kids just heard for Xbox360, and many aren't even aware of the existance of Wii, or are associating it with 3-8 year kids. This situation won't change in a year or two, it'll take much longer time. During that time PS3 will do really well in Europe. In my country i have seen 7-10 articles on Wii in printed media, about 3 of them were positive, 1 nor positive nor negative, and rest negative. There were tons of articles on Ps3. Prize in many games and draws is PS3.

On the other side, Gameboy was symbol of Handhelds, and by DS sales, and especially sales of both Brain Age games, it's clearly visible that the mainstream diggs nintendo's new approach. Situation is similar to japanese market in that aspect. It is to be seen if WiiFit will boast european love for wii even more. And it is also to be seen if this will affect PS3 and Xbox sales.

Edit: Price of Wii in my country is $450, and PS3 $650. Despite the Playstation legacy here, Wii is selling better than any nintendo non-hanheld console. So, price is larger in Europe for EVERY console, not just for PS3.

.

Even if the ps3 doesn't catch up to the 360 in America it only really needs to do around 75% of its sales there, provided of course that they can dominate it in others and Japan.

Others is huge for Sony. There are more sales in other than America, and it was released later in others.
